Questions about Posting/Editing Stories

Pretty soon, I'm going to post another chapter to a story I have up here. Before I do, I want to make some changes to the first chapter which has already been published.

I'd like to:

1. Change the title to add a "Ch. 1"
2. Fix a typo or two I spotted
3. Add some tags

Is there any way to edit a story that has already been published? I also like to group my next chapter with this one. When I submit it, will Literotica give me an option to do that?

Lit automatically groups stories in series -- though it's imperfect. If you do your edit of the original chapter first, and then make sure the edit goes through, the next one titled with the Ch. 02 will automatically group with the first.

So start with the edit, and hold on to Ch. 02 for now.

Here's the process:

First, take note of the URL that accesses the first page of your story in the address bar of your browser.

Now, start a new submission. Use the same title as the original ( or as much as will fit ) + something such as *EDIT*

Fill in the same category as the original, and then fill in the description with a placeholder, as it doesn't matter.

Since you're changing/adding keywords, you'll want to list your original keywords, and any new ones in the keywords section.

Next, upload or paste your new story text with the edits you wish to make. You need to repost ALL of the text, not just the edited sections.

Now the important part

In the "Notes" section, you want to describe exactly what you're doing.

I would also suggest pasting the URL I told you to take note of at the beginning. This makes sure that there's no question about which story/chapter you're editing, as this URL is unique.

Then, say that you're:

(1) Changing the title to include Ch. 01 It's probably a good idea to type out the entire new title as you want it to appear "My Sexy Story Ch. 01"

(2) Adding Keywords. Note that you've added them in the submission form, but it's probably not a bad idea to list them here as well.

(3) Updating the story text to fix some typos.

Preview, then submit as you would any normal story.

Technically, edits take just as long as normal submissions to move through the queue. ( Please note that there's a themed contest going on, and that may add a day or two to the amount of time it takes new non-contest stories to be approved )

However, I have seen edits go up in a much shorter time, and in bulk. I wouldn't count on that when you're making changes to more than one thing in the submission, however.

When the edit has been processed, you'll see the *EDIT* submission vanish from your private author page. The edits will most likely not show up on the public side of the site for at least 24 hours. If the story or chapter is long, there's a chance that only part of the edits will show up at first. Be patient, and make sure all of the changes have processed. It shouldn't take more than 48 hours for all the changes to appear on the public side of the site, even for a very long story.

Once everything is good to go, submit Ch. 02, and you're ready to proceed with the story.

The process is convoluted, but it does work :)

Chapter numbering

Just a minor point.

When numbering chapters, it is better to use 01, not 1.

Why? Because when some computer programmes sort stories, chapters can end up in this order:

Ch.1
Ch.11
Ch.12
...
Ch.19
Ch.2
Ch.21

But if you have used 01,02 etc, they will be in the correct order.

If you intend to write more than 99 chapters, then start with Ch.001, Ch.002

"Ch. 1" usually gets changed to "Ch. 01" by default ( as does Chapter 1 ) but it's still good to note. There's always the potential that one could slip through the cracks.

You typically have to make a special request in the notes section if you want to do something different with chapter numbering than that default, or the 001 version.
