Do you have favorite music for your scenes? If so, what? And how does it change depending upon context, aims, desires for that specific counter, etc.? (e.g., for doing sensory deprevation vs. heavy flogging)

I am a relative newbie and searching. Perhaps oddly, I think that my favorite for general, wide-ranging play would be Glass' opera based on Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast (sung in French, of course) at this point. I have used NIN's Closer (concert version) for heavy SM play.

A kiss, or if you prefer swat, in advance!

Wow!

Over achiever indeed! I actually think that was an understatement this evening, LOL. Thank you! I cannot wait to go through all of those threads. And thank you for the welcome, as well :D

Music during SM play? No thanks. :)

I achieve the best results from a partner when speaking in a deep, low whisper.

I also get off on the noises made by a partner, no matter how slight. The gasps, the moans, the sharp intake of breath, etc.

Sometimes the most delicious sounds are barely audible. Background music? That's just gonna get in the way.

Now that is interesting... I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to use music.

On my end, and perhaps because I am a beginner, it helps me to get more quickly into subspace when bottoming, and assists me in establishing and keeping a rhythm when Topping. Does that make any sense?

I've never been to subspace, so I don't know how to answer that part of your question.

I can see your point about rhythm when Topping, though. And music, in general, can be great for setting a mood.

Hi neonflux,

I'm with the "only sounds of the scene" folks on this one. The anticipation of the where it will land, how hard, ect, of a cane or crop whisteling through the air before it strikes me and the sounds of a Mistress's enjoyment of my reaction to the above does it for me during scening.

However, during the earlier part of an evening, say for instance, out to dinner (and she has me dressed as she wishes, and/or plugged, and/or chaste) then some appropriate music helps to build the desire and anticipation. Say maybe some music like Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love."

Just my thoughts...

Ok just have to say :nana: to that one, LOL ;)

grrrrrrrrrr I have a perfect joke stored somewhere about scenes and music that falls between Neon and John' s comments ..............back to searching

Hi, new to this forum and well any other sexually oriented forum so I guess you can say that this is our (mine and my wife's) first time. Anyway back to the subject at hand; We like the louder "rougher" music, like Nine Inch Nails "Fuck You Like an Animal", one or two Marylin Manson songs and a lot of the extremely sexually charged hair metal from the '80's, mainly the 'Crue.

fence sitter

I'm new to this but can't resist giving my two cents.
I'm going both ways on this one No one is going to argue with "sounds of the scene" and we all know why (sigh). On the other hand (as one who is ALWAYS on the receiving end) The music can give you a slight hint to your Master's mood and also can mask the sounds of preparation.
So as little help as THAT is I'm stuck on the fence.

finally found it ......smiles

I couldn't figure out what was happening. She had descended deeply into subspace, and her voice had become tiny and difficult to hear over the music we had playing for our scene. I had her well-trained to orgasm on command, and I could easily speak loudly enough, when ordering this, to be heard over the classical piece playing on the stereo. She, however, was unable to summon the strength or the willpower to speak up, so I had stopped our play until I could make out what she was saying.

Every time I asked her what she had said, she would shudder uncontrollably, deep in the throes of another orgasm. I was powerless to help her... or to stop her from possibly causing herself injury. Her barely audible voice kept repeating something that I could not make out.

Once again, she whispered out her plea... and once again I replied...

"Come again?"

Lots of NIN suggested here, I also like their track called "sadness" a parody of an Enigma track.

Also, love Massive Attack's album Mezzanine for setting the right mood. Opera works well, Enigma is good comedown music. Evanessence is also fun.

As for fence sitting, I tend to use music but play it fairly quietly, as a backdrop to help conjure and maintain the mood. I can still hear every reaction of my partner, every spank and I still get to whisper or growl in my sub's ear without competing for attention with the stereo.

Sorted

we use music to mask OUR sounds from anybody else in hearing distance, not the other way around.... personally i tune out the music, and focus on how my Sir is breathing or what he is saying

Rebecca, Now that is just too wonderfully clever of an ending :D

We do use music in our scenes. She finds it quite helpful in taking her to subspace.

We use a definate variety of music, and now there are certian songs that she will never think of in the same way again.

Never used music while playing...

But it's an intriguing idea.

:D

W/we don't use music. i don't think i would like it very much. If there is music, i would rather have earplugs in. i like to focus on the sensations and feelings of whatever is going on. i would be completely thrown off by music i think.

No music for us unless we are trying to cover the chance of noise or using it for sensory deprivation...I personally find it too distracting and takes away from the whole experience overall.
