if 2 people author a story, co-operatively, can you put the submission under both author names or how does that work? i know chain stories its each seperate part so thats different, but if the whole thing is co-op

I'm afraid you can't John. It has to go under one or the other; that's just the way Lit is prgorammed.

One work-around is to create a new identity, like Tatelou and myself did for our collaboration (EarlChick) and post it there.

Wanted to say this, but wasn't certain. Never did a collaboration before.

Question, Earl: Was collaborating hard? How would you suggest going about it?

Mostly just curiosity, as I haven't plans to do so, but am curious, in case.

p.s. Writing down that name. EarlChick. Have only read one of Tatelou's and none fo yours. Might prove interesting to see what you two came up with.

QC, you might be in for a "Shock". Ha! No pun intended, really. ;)

It's quite far removed from my usual style. We never actually set out to write a collaboration, it just kind of happened right here in the threads. What's posted as EarlChick is the result. It was a lot of fun, though!

I have written a couple of "proper" collaborations now. Both with men, and both with men who have the same "tastes" as me.

The first I wrote with someone quite a while ago. We each wrote a section, then passed it over for the other to read and add to. It worked incredibly well and we ended up with quite a weird and wonderful story (erotic horror meets sci-fi).

The other story was written much more recently, with Lew. He wrote most of it. The whole story was his initial idea. He started it and wrote quite a lot, but then didn't know where to go with it, but knew how he wanted to end it. So I picked it up and wrote the middle chunk. When I passed it back to him, he flew with it. He edited and tweaked some of my bit, then carried it on from there - all so it would run well together. The finished product, in my opinion, is one hell of a good 10,000+ word story. I'm currently editing it, making it so that my middle bit fits in with his (switching it all to the same POV, etc) and then he'll be posting it under his name. He can have all the honours, cos it was his idea and he wrote most of it. :)

Collaborating can be a LOT of fun, if you gel well with the other person, and your writing styles compliment each other. It can be difficult, though, and it has only worked for me twice.

QC: As a rule, I don't play well with others when it comes to writing. My writing is so ephemeral, so off and on that I'm impossible to work with as you can never tell when my muse is in the mood.

The EarlChick collaboration wasn't anything planned, as Lou said, and it's not really even a story. It's more of a vignette, brought about when Lou brought out Shock Chick to play and I responded. We just adlibbed the whole story piece by piece, each of us building on what the other had said last. Kinda like writing a good cybersex piece actually.

Psst. Go and read my stories!

Yeah, that's what I figured. Difficult unless you mesh well. Especially when it comes to voice. It seems impossible for a story to flow with two separate authors working behind the scenes. I'm tempted to try it just for the sake of experience.

I don't think anyone on here shares my story interests, or comes near enough to my specific style for a collaboration.

Thanx guys...

p.s. Earl, read mine too...

ive starting my third collaboration. The first one was going to be part of a long series i was doing, and i wanted to change it up and have part of it written in first person from the female character (when it was first person from male), and we tried to do it, but she just couldn't keep up, and it just seemed easier to write it myself. Then another girl offered to help so then she was to write a section and i would just edit it, but she wrote about the first 1/4 th and couldn't continue saying "it's your story" so i kept what she wrote and ended up writing the rest myself. So now i am trying to do a collaboration that isnt in my series, so its not My story. And i am starting that now.

Collaboration is fine - one of my novels was written collaboratively - but having two authors doesn't just double the time taked, it multiplies it by four. On the other hand I find the joint novel the most satisfying of my novels to read.
