How the hell can you get rid of static electricity?

I have in the last 24 hours Zapped myself on:

My brothers girlfriends bum
Her kids nose
The fire (Which hit me in the fingers and the elbow joint)
The kettle
The teapot

Does anyone know how to get rid of the static seriously?

Ya Chef,why was your hand on her.We really really want to know.......To the question now.If you have really low humidity levels in your house,that usually causes that in my house.Especially in the winter when your heat is on,or when you run your air conditioner.You might have to get a humidifyer......After you get that humidifyer,you'll have to touch your brothers girlfriend again to make sure that was the problem....Later!

Yep, low humidity it is. Static electricity is created by two surfaces rubbing against each other and causing one of them to borrow electrons creating a difference in the number of protons and electrons (what could be called a charge) for both objects. Stuff doesn't like being unbalanced, so when they get the chance, electrons move from a negative charged object to a positive charged object or ground, hence your static electricity discharge. Humidity acts as a lubricating agent at the surface level of two objects causing them to slide over each other more easily so they don't rub off electrons. Your typical dryer sheet (think Bounce or Cling-free) works by coating your clothes with wax in the dryer so that when they rub against each other, fewer electrons get scraped resulting in less static and clinging.

So to fix this, either increase your humidity or coat the entirety of your house with a waxy substance so that things slide over each other. Also, try picking up your feet instead of shuffling!

A quick fix for static build up.

Fill a spray bottle with water, and adjust it for the finest mist it can produce. Spray the carpet in areas where you are having troubles with static. Do not spray enough to get the carpet wet, just mist the room from about shoulder level.

The static will go away for a while. How long will depend on the humidity and other factors.

For a more permanent solution look for a product called StaticGuard. I think it's made by 3M/Scotch, and can be found in most stores here in the US. I don't know if it's available in Oz. I've used it to treat the carpet around the computer and TV to prevent scrambling them with static. It usually is effective for about a week or so.

Sex may not cure the static problem, but the static problem would at least make the sex interesting if it didn't "cure it."
