So in my upcoming story there are a lot of illusions that are seen in real life. Kind of like day dreams but in real time. However lit dosen't have a way of slanting text or bolding it or anything. So what are your suggestions?

To slant text, or put it in italics, you have to set it up like this.

<i> your text </i>

Bold is done the same way but with a "B"

<b> your text</b>

Hope this helps.

I know that works in forum but does it work in the story editor?

Try it. Paste your story in the submiter with those tags, then hit the preview function. If you use those tags, you'll see either italics or bold.

In the forum you use the square brackets "[" and "]" but for formatting a story on the public side you use angle brackets "<" and ">". Maybe a confusing difference but it's the difference between the real world and the forum world.

Another option that's easier on the eyes if there are large blocks of text that you need to set off is to use <blockquote>

Here's one of mine utilizing it.

All you have to do is enclose the text in the blockquote ( and /blockquote ) tags. You'll need to be careful about sections that might be near Lit page transitions, though. When a Lit page transitions, it loses all open formatting. The preview is usually accurate enough to make adjustments, but not always.

You'll also want to point out your use of the tag in the "Notes" section of the submission form, just for safety's sake, and likely explain why. Even though it's an allowed tag, the speed-approval process can result in rejections unless Laurel knows at the outset there's something special in there.

I find blocks of italics very distracting, whether on-screen or in print. They feel out of place; I want to skip past them, get back to the main story. Using <blockquote> to indent text seems more inclusive. YMMV.

Question I've always been meaning to ask, but somehow never did; I normally write my stories in MS Word 2007, save the text as a plain text document, and submit it as same. If I want to include italic text, and I insert the html links in the 'Word' text, then save it as a plain text document, will the conversion process carry the links though, or do I need to go into the plain text file and insert the links once the document has been converted to plain text in the submission window? I'm not really au fait with using html links, but I do need to learn how to use them properly, so any help and advice would be gratefully received.

Try it and see - grab a paragraph or a page that has some italicizes text and paste it in, see what happens. You don't have to submit, you can delete it after your trial.

Thank you for that, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I figured it out. Thanks :)

Wow, I didn't know about blockquote, thanks
