Question: Timing Out When Composing PMs

Since the latest upgrades, when I'm composing a long PM, I often get logged out and have to login again to send the PM. I have to make a conscious effort to copy the entire PM text before attempting to send it because this is happening frequently.

Is there a setting somewhere that I can increase the amount of idle time before being logged out automatically?

I don't have this problem, but I clear my cookies, close my browser and restart my computer frequently. I'm also using the Imagize-Liquid skin.

I've also heard checking the box THEN entering your name and password might keep the system from logging you out.

So, my best guess is to try those things and see if any of them work. If so, change your skin back to what you have now (assuming it's not Imagize) and see if it continues to be a problem for you. If nothing works and there are no other suggestions, you may want to PM Manu in case it's a bug specific to your setup or certain accounts.

Good luck fixing it! A lot of people (myself included) have problems with CollarMe eating messages like that, which is something that's made me turn to copying text, composing in a word processor and switch to email many a time.

When you first come to Lit for the day, check the remember me box when you log in. That will automatically log you back in when you time out and the only noticeable effect of timing out will be your last visit date/time stamp and the new-post pointer being reset.

You will have to remember to explicitly log out to make sure that someone else can't come behindyou on the same computer and use your userID, but that's generally a small risk for most of us.

If you don't want to be automatically logged in, just make sure that you are composing your PM in a new window so you can refresh any forum page in another window every 5-7 minutes to keep your last activity stamp current.

Except for restarting my computer frequently, I clear the cache several times a day and always delete the cookies. Incidentally, I'm using the vBulletin 3 Default Style.

I never unchecked that in the past, so unless it's off by default now... I'll double check the next time I login.

Edited to add: I logged out and then went to the Login page. "Remember Me" was unchecked. I checked it and will see if that helps.

The strange part is that I'd never had a problem being logged out until recently, and only when I "send" a PM that's taken a while to type. (It doesn't send - I go immediately to a Login page.) Even if I've done nothing on Lit for a long time, I don't get logged out when I go to submit a reply.

Also, when I get the Login screen right after it happens, I get a completely blank screen after entering the site again. I'd expect it to go back to my Inbox, but it doesn't. It's weird!

Thank you both for the suggestions. I'll have to make a conscious effort to always copy the PM text before sending, just in case.
