would you buy it? Of course, seeing as how I'm in the insurance biz, I would sell it... if the commissions were big enough.. hehe

Considering the shots, the flea baths, the pills, yadda yadda that you buy for your pet, if you could insure him/her.. would you? How much would you be willing to spend out of pocket for these benefits?

The only pet I've insured was...

My ex husband. His shots were expensive without it and considering I was the "working" spouse at the time, I decided he was well worth it. As for any other pets, nope, wouldn't do it. Maybe that's why I'm divorced and have no pets except the mice that are invading my house because of the neighbors who won't clean up their trash piled house and back yard. The only insurance I have for the mice is in the form of a glue trap, it insures their death.

Okay.....

Vix? What body part of yours would you insure?

I'd insure my little right pinky - because it reaches those hard to reach places - gotta keep breathing you know.

Ewwwwwww!

Me? Pay for something if I don't have to? :) Hell, my ex and I never even paid the pet deposit for our "20lb or smaller" Lab. lol :)

Actually it isn't a new concept. The UK has had pet insurance for a long time. Preventive care for pets. Immunizations, x-rays, flea dips and even boarding costs could be included in an annual fee of less than $120. That's right around $10 per month not counting the $100 deductible and 20% coinsurance cost you'd be subject to. I dunno, sounds like a good deal to me.

Sparky: body part? *grin* Well, hmmm.. probably my tongue cause I love to talk, eat, lick, suck, and kiss.

Nice to know that you're breathing canals are open though. *wink*

Hey now this sounds alittle interesting to me, especially if it keeps me from having to do some of the "dirty" work of keeping our basset hound ears cleaned and well cared for. Not to meation the trips to have the toe nails cliped.

I have it

I have pet insurance for the cat.... and we also have a health plan for it.

Why? Well ifmy wifes cat dies.. I have to live with a basket case for a month.. she as had that cat for 9 years, so its like a child to her.. sheesh and I have only been with her for 4 years...(The cat gets more attention then me..sheesh)

I guess it would depend on the dog I own ..I have a Belgian Sheep Dog ..So that woudl be depending own the dog it self like a English bulldog I would get insurance do to the fact of their eyes are poping out...But I guess I would if It was mandatory ...

If my cats were younger, I would definitely get some insurance on them. We're now financially able to afford it, but they are rather old, and I don't know if they're insurable. Also, one of them has heart disease, and I'm pretty sure that any premiums would be unacceptable. Too bad there's not a frequent flyer program for pets! LOL

Prolly.

I just forked out 1800 bucks for the dalmation who had parvo cause we were in California and there wasn't anyplace to go out and shoot him. Or so my soft hearted StudMuffin claims.

I now have a dachsund who is wildly prone to hip and back trouble, the breed, no this one...yet. Insurance on a pet is a small price to pay if you aren't the instant euthenasia type of person. Vet bills get damned expensive.

Research Carefully

As some might have guessed, I live this life ONLY to serve the "Baby Girl". And I have looked into Pet Insurance.

Of course this is after she spent 4 days in Doggy ICU and I shelled out 2K for her. <still shaking head over that one>

What I found was that the insurance covered "preventative maintenance" type things, but wasn't all it was cracked up to be for High Dollar Charges, blood transfusions, etc. But that also has to do with pre-existing conditions, age of pet (Baby Girl is 18... would YOU insure her...NOT) and things like that. I also found it varies from state to state.

When Baby Girl (real name Sparkles) crosses over, and I have done MY time as a basket case, and I get another dog, I will insure them. Since I already know I am willing to spend big bucks to make the little monsters healthy, I guess a premium is doable. (Doable?? That just doesn't look right...but I digress.)

I just recommend researching, and if anyone does sell it, I am interested in hearing what you have to offer. Although Baby Girl may object to a pre-qualification physical. She doesn't like vets much now... wonder why?

Yes, I have pet insurance for both cats. About $24 per month for two of them. You can get the insurance on animals through age 10, and once insured they keep them on when older than that.

I got the insurance a year ago and I like it. My last cat had health problems most of its life and about the last two years, had a kidney disease that could be treated with expensive human medicine. I was paying up to several hundred $ per month in vet bills, with trips 3 times per week to the vet for treatment. This insurance would have covered those costs.
