Hello all! I've been submitting poetry for a couple years now, but this marks my first visit to the forums. Thanks to those of you who have left me feedback.

I have a new piece that I want to submit, but I'm not entirely sure if I should place it under erotic or not. Basically, it has the words cumrag and masturbate, and even though the context surrounding those references is sexual in nature I wouldn't exactly quantify it as an erotic poem overall.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone who's been supportive with what little I've submitted thus far. RL allowing I may become more active around here, but who the hell knows these days.

Hey, TB.

The erotic/non-erotic distinction is not, I think, in most readers' minds an important one. As has been said before by people more articulate than me, it basically comes down to where you think your poem fits. If you think it is erotic, even if it never (obviously) references sex, then put it in the "erotic" category. Otherwise put it in the "non-erotic" category.

My experience is that your readers will sort out for themselves whether they find it erotic or not.

Welcome. Feel free to hang here and be entertaining or obnoxious, whichever is your best fit. ;)

Personally, I view this as an adult site.

One man's sensuousness is another's eroticism is another's porn.

Do it the way you see it fits.

I've seen some very sensuous poems in the nonerotic category while others in the erotic category were very boringly mundane — some might consider these porn.

Use your best judgement.

Thank you all. :) Submitted, nonerotic. Chances are even if I ever wind up writing a blatantly pornographic poem I'll submit it as nonerotic, just to sate some OCD need for consistency. I was under the impression that there might be actual requirements involved, since the seperate categories even exist.

Not at all. My personal obsession is that the distinction between "erotic" and "non-erotic" is a false one and should be removed. I would assert that those are readerly, not writerly distinctions. But I am a dreamy malcontent whose opinion is valued nil.

May I ask a question of you wise people?

As a 'not very good' serious poet, am I welcome to post light-hearted erotic pieces on Lit - trivia, in other words? Do readers go for that kind of thing?
Hey, WW48.

I am neither wise nor, exactly, people, but my answer to your question would be the probably unhelpful statement that readers go for what readers go for.

But, hey. Post anything you want with or without welcoming. People will like it or they will not. People, oddly, seem to be like that.

Whatever happens, I think most people will be fair in judgment.

But then, I've been wrong before. ;)

I love that kind of writing.
