Question on submitting

Okay, I have a Novella that I plan to submit in chapters (around 7 of them) My question is, there are parts of this novella that might not be kosher for lit and I don't want to submit all the parts only to find that part 5 got rejected and parts 1,2,3,4,6,&7 got posted. Is there a way I can make sure they post all of it or nothing (without submitting it as one very long submission)?

Doesn't sound like it. Each segment will probably be looked at as that segment alone--without reference to the rest of it--as it pops up in submission.

The guidelines are not very complicated. Make sure nobody under 18 years old is even remotely in a sexual situation, not even seeing his or her mother in the shower. No bestiality and no violent rape.

You can submit one part at a time and wait for it to be accepted before sending in the next one. That way, you can change any rejected part so it is kosher.

Which is what I plan to do. Its just I'm afraid if I have to change a major plot point that that may med I'd have to change a lot in the story i.e. not just in that one part.

You think if I put a note in the notes field that would do it?

It would probably help if we knew what you thought 'might not be kosher for lit'. That way, we can either reassure you that it'll be fine or tell you that you haven't got a chance in hell of getting it posted. :)

If you post and then change a major plot point you can always submit edited chapters, but your going to confuse readers, and, if your posting to Loving Wives, piss them off all over again. Alternatively, you could pull the whole story and resubmit it as new. But I suggest you simply finish your story before submitting in the first place.

(this is an unofficial opinion, but based on experience)

other than submitting the package as a whole, you can only be reasonably sure, if you follow the simple rules. e.g. no explicit sex with persons under 18.

if you find parts 1-4 being accepted, then you obviously have an idea what will be accepted and can bring it off. so it seems perverse or maybe just 'risk taking' is you suddenly introduce beasts copulating with 16 year olds, and then feel mistreated if it doesn't 'fly'. the only other approach would be to have a vague (in details) or censored version of ch 5. THEN, if and when some publisher wants the whole thing, take down the lit stuff and insert the "real" chapter 5-- it's to be noted that lit's rules are not the 'law of the land,' they are precautionary.

Why not just post the offending chapter first, under a different title? If it makes it through, you're good. If not, at least you know. You could even post it under an alt's name, so you don't confuse your fans - maybe add a rambling and poorly written forward, so no one sticks around to read it. Or just post the vignette with the questionable subject matter. Many people around here post vignettes and call them stories.
