Question on story collaboration

Hello,

A friend and I wish to collaborate on a story. Our intention is to have one of us post a chapter and then the other would post a chapter that follows up on the previous one.

What advice can you give us?

Should we do this in the Chain Story area or is there a better methodology?

Actually, this is just the kind of thing the Chyoo section of the Forum is set up for.

Doin't know what the Chyoo is? Look all the way at the bottom of the Lit Discussion Board, you'll find it. Chyoo is set up so that people can collaborate on stories. Stories progress like trees, one chapter after a next. More than one person can enter and the story can then even branch. The stories stay up forever and each chapter is attributed to the specific author.

Problem is, hardly anyone reads Chyoo stories.

You could also post it as a closed Sexual Role Playing game. Wait till you have all the chapters up, then cut&paste it into a regular story format and submit it. Only one of you will get authorship though.

Chain stories might work, I'm not sure.

Really, Lit's not set up for that kind of thing. That's what Chyoo was deisned for.

You can get joint credit. Set up a new ID for the both of you, and share the password. Call it something obvious, so that if your co-author is called Writerfriend you could use KURCHIAN&WRITERFRIEND. That way anyone looking for either of you will also find this joint name.

As to alternate chapters - I couldn't do that. The joint novel that MsLinnett and I published was just that. Some sections were plotted by me and some by her, then we discussed them and reached a concensus. Some sections were drafted by me and some by her and then we discussed them and reached a concensus again. I threw the final book together because it was my publisher we were using.

It took four times as long as writing on my own!
