Question on indentions.

Okay, I know how to indent text here in the bulletin board.
I also know how to add special text like italic, bold, etc., in stories. What I'd like to know, now, is if it's possible to indent the text within stories by using < indent> ... < /indent > ? (I know not to add the spaces in story text!)
So, would the indention show up in a story? And if so, would you have to double space the text still, or can you write like it was a MS Word/Works page?

(Edited to add...)
I just saw my post and saw that the second line did not "wrap around", so to speak. The whole paragraph stayed indented. Is there a way to "fix" that, too? ;)

Thanks!

You're no help. :p Or is that "no fun"?
Depends -- do you have an innie or an outie? I've got an outie that would fit well with your innie, if you're interested

(Did I do a good job at getting this thread back on track to avoid it getting moved? ;) )

hi

type it the way you want it to come out and then click on file, and do a "print preview". This sould show you what it will look like if you print it out. If it's not the way you want it, print it out anyway and use that printed format to make your corrections on the screen and try "print preview" again. hope this helps, Falcon

Um, the Lit format is no where near the same as MS Word or MS Works.

hi

try it and see if you can view it. It might not be the same as word, etc., but at some point it was written using a word processing program.

I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? I was asking people who are familiar with Lit's formatting style if a certain bulletin board format could be used in stories, but it seems like it won't work how I'd like it anyway so I'm not worried about it anymore.

This should be in the How To forum. ;)

OMG! I swear this is not what you said when I said "you're no fun"!!! Am I losing my mind? I also swear that I posted this in Author's Hangout. That was my intention!!!! At any rate, if I really posted this in the Personals then I'm off my damn rocker and it also explains the replies I've gotten so far! I've moved it to AH now!

If you're asking about submitting stories- try this string of letters and stuff
that's an ampersand, nbsp and a semicolon as if it were a word
Each time you print, that it will count for one empty space in your text :)

Hey, groovy! I never knew about this trick. Thanks. :)

enter   and it will indent one space, you can then use a space and then follow with another

    will indent 3 spaces.

oops I see you've been answered already... so nevermind

yes, but you answered even better!

Not sure if this is what you want, but if you are looking to indent a paragraph on both the left and right so that it stands out in the overall story you can use the code:

<blockquote> indented paragraph</blockquote>

I've been known to test how something would look on Lit (or how many Lit pages something was going to be) by doing a test submission. I always put in remarks that I'm testing formatting and to please not post if I hit submit by mistake. Once you cut and paste your text in, you can preview it, see how it will look once posted then go back and delete/cancel rather than submit.

Thanks for the idea. :) I know you can preview your text before actually submitting a story. I've used italic and centered text in my stories often.

On this project, I was thinking of "formatting a letter" that would look like a real letter, as it were, in the Letters & Transcripts category instead of the typical double spaced paragraphs in Lit stories. :)
