That is say hi and thanks to positive and negative votes, comments, hearts? Would like to say thanks. Not sure that is the standard.

I don't think anything bad ever comes from someone saying thank you. If you want to, you certainly should.

Don't worry about "standard", if you want to say thanks then do it.
The best person is yourself as long as you are true to that person.

This has been a sissy opinion.
 
I can't see the harm in saying "Thank you," especially if the complement seems sincere. If your response leads to you receiving another message that doesn't sit well with you, then you can check out of the convo.
