I am in the market for a webcam, I was wonderin if anyone could give me some suggestions as to what to buy.

I have done some research, and found that a webcam has better resolution if it is just a webcam (no 2 or 3 in one)

But what should I look for in a webcam to make sure that I am getting the quality that I want.

Logitech, they're good and cheap.

The resolution of the webcam isn't going to mean a whole lot if you or the other person(s) are on a slow connection.

I've got several Logitech webcams, the original b/w version which is pretty good, and in fact looks better than my color USB one. While my color parallel webcam is better than both of them combined.

Just my opinon and experiences though.

i have a logitech and i dont like it. all the pictures are pixelated and since some dust got on the lense and i cant get it off, almost all fo my pictures are terrible now. i know that different people have different opinions on these things, but i'm really not liking mine as of late.

i do agree with lobito though, the resolution doesnt matter much if you are on a slow connection.

are you going to be using it for broadcasting yourself, or for taking pictures, or both? i know there are some digicams out there that serve as both and are really nice (my roomie has one).

I have a logitech quickcam too, it's been through hell (cats) and it's still kicking. It's a tough little camera. :)

It's good for broadcasting, but the still pictures aren't worth a damn. For still's you might just want to go for a digicam with a PC upload feature. I have a Nikon Coolpix 775 which is the cheapest in the line, but suits my needs.

Quickcam also comes with some neat software like MGI photosuite and MGI videowave. They aren't top of the line, but they're better than paint. :D

I'd say the pro's out weight the cons though, if you're just looking for a starter camera (I.e. you don't know what you're doing anyways, like me).

I will be most definately be purchasing a digicam for my stills.

The webcam will be strictly for broadcasting.

Digital cameras are getting cheaper evrey day, and everyone's having sales and deals. You might want to spend a few extra bucks.
