I am a new author to Literotica. My question is: What is the best method for receiving reader feedback about my submissions? My first submission was published two days ago. I have allowed voting, but not public comments. I have not received any email response. As a new contributor, would you recommend I open my story for public comments?

Okay, to start, when you ask such things, make sure to include a link in your post, or your signature. To start you off, here's a link to your member page.....

Jeff's Work

If you quote my post, you'll be able to see how I did it, and add it to your signature if you wish via the control panel page. *smiles*

Secondly, the people here are quite friendly.....well, unless you catch them pre-coffee.....and even then it's only mild growling and biting. *grin* So, pull up a chair, wait patiently, and I'm sure you'll get more opinions than you know what to do with. *smiles* Including mine!

Jeff, I can do little more than welcome you too. You owe Whisp big time ;)

Whisp: you are some welcome committee!

Welcome to Lit!

Jeff -

For starters, your story category (Toys & Masturbation) isn't one of the most wildly read on Lit. You may see fewer feedback responses because of that.

And you are a new author, so it could take some time to build up a reader base.

Personally, I would leave public comments open. This is a new feature (it's only been available for a couple of weeks) and we should encourage readers to make use of it.

Besides, don't you want others to read of your accomplishments? ;)

I look forward to reading your work!

Just a note, if you are new and haven't gotten any feedback yet and are anxiously awaiting it prepare yourself for the worst. There are some wonerful readers here who will send encouraging feedback and helpful suggestions, but lit has it's share of trolls too, so if the first one isn't nice don't let it dim your enthusiasm. Especially if it's from that prolific reviewer, Annonyamous.

Toys and Masturbation? At least he's safe from the scathing wit of L&L the lesbian sisters.

Thanks Whisp, worked a treat. (I'll steal the rose as a memento)

Jeff,

If you want feedback, give feedback. At this time you've made only two posts. That tells me you haven't been giving other writers any feedback on their stories.

Do what Whisper suggested, then spend some time on the Story Feedback forum helping other new writers with their stuff.

Good luck.

Oh, and many authors will reply to any email feedback they get where the feedback author gives their return address. Sometimes it's nothing more than, "Thanks so much. I'm glad you liked it. When I get time, I'll try to read some of your work.", or something to that effect.....Just to let them know you got it, it was appreciated, and to hopefully give them encouragement to do it more often, both for you and the rest of us feedback starving authors. *smile*

Sorry for the addendum, but I was straightening the cushions on the couch and found I had an extra two cents. *wink*

Ps. Gauche, an extra in case the blush is off the first....:rose:

Feedback is a funny thing. Sometimes you'll get slammed by it, and other times you'll put out what you think of as a great story and get nada.

Another suggestion is to make a note in your bio that you welcome feedback. When you get it, reply to it (there are certain exceptions...I don't generally reply to thinly veiled requests for sex disguised as "feedback", but they're the extreme minority).

Once you start getting feedback, you may want to start a reader's list. there are several (you'll see a way to sign up for mine in my signature line) sites that let you make them for free. Once you have readers, you'll get more and more feedback.

Like they said...toys isn't a great feedback category. Nor are romance and the like

edited to add...don't take a lack of feedback to mean anything.
