What the heck does the word slag mean? I was watching Closer and he said "Now fuck off and die, you fucked-up slag."

Does it mean bitch or slut or what?

Slag, such a lovely term Basically it's means a really low class of person (think white trash but lower). It's not a sexual term like slut, it's more waste of space, it's cames from the term from smelting. Slag is the name given to the waste product when you make steel. Slag: a useless material. It's more of a East end term. The great thing about it is you can use it in a freindly way ie "You love it you slags!" (as was said in the comedy show "The Mighty Boosh")is often said in a playful fashion (don't call it to the kids tho ). But yep it's an lovely insult

It can also mean a dirty easy slut, one that will go with any bloke as long as he has a pulse and doesnt worry to much about personal hygiene.
