So, I'm writing a series, and since I'm in survivorphile I'm having the series go through several different categories, and I understand that some of my regular readers are sometimes unhappy with my choice of category, but I'm also getting readers who apparently just want to complain about the entire idea behind the story...
it started off as a nonconsent, it's pretty much staying there, and they complain about how the girl is getting treated and say that she wouldn't put up with it for real and everything... it just bothers me that they continue reading when they already know they don't like it and they always comment on how much they DON'T like it!

does anyone else have people like these stalking their stories? or am i just special??? and does anyone know how to get rid of them? I dont mind if someone doesn't like my story, but when the person indicates in their note that they haven't liked ANY of the chapters in a series, I don't understand why they'd read up to the 5th chapter! But I like to get comments and everything... *sigh* I dunno... just frustrates me.

Welcome to the barrel, it is now your time as well!

I have a couple of readers who hate anything I write. They read each and every one of my stories and give me the type of rating they think my stories deserve. Their votes insure that I will never win a monthly prize. Just as my ratings start to get to competitive level, my trolls weigh in with the votes that insure that my efforts are once again doomed.

There is, alas, no cure.

Hi Golden,

No advice other than to say that they like it enough to keep reading the series and tell you what they don't like, so there must be some element of the story that keeps them coming back, eh?

Or it's a stalking troll. ;) We have those, too.

Welcome to AH (if I haven't already said it) and try not give the negative comments more weight than the positive ones. :)

Luck to you,

Yui

I've kinda gotten used to that sort of thing. Hell, I've had to. Cause of my age, I'm guarunteed another 20 or so years of it. And I'm not counting people who do it because they have nothing better to do. Sometimes I think I should start lying about my age.

I had someone ignore the warning on my non-consent story, then complain about how someone who had been raped might take offense to it. WTF!? I would think my readers would realize by now that I don't pull my punches.

I don't seem to suffer that sort of thing steadily...it comes in spurts (pardon the pun). I imagine most people who do that sort of thing eventually get sick of the voice in their head going "You realize you're sitting here poking fun like a school yard bully at someone you keep calling a child..."

Oh yeah...I've got some 'readers' that seem to take great delight in following my stories and commenting on all the things they don't like...time and time again.

Some of the other's making public comments have even mentioned it...actually going as far to defend my story. I have to wonder what I did to piss them off so much at times...then I realize that most of my stories are about spouses that cheat, yet they manage to find a way to come back through the divide and into the loving relationship that they had before...never quite the same, but still their love overcame. I guess some of these 'readers' cant' fathom or stand the fact that could actually happen. So, for the (what I think is) lack of love in their lives, they attack me for writing about something that they can't see or find in their lives.

I have written several multi-chapter stories, and each time I struggle with where to put it...what catagory...I finally came to the conclusion that I should keep it in the catagory I started with...and hope it all works out in the end.

The survivor contest is likely to attract trolls because you have to write across so many genres. Those who like your romance story are going to be irritated if your next one is non-consent.

You can't please all the people all of the time and some people will never be pleased by anything. Listen to constructive criticism that helps you to improve by pointing out flaws in the story. Ignore the negative stuff that is just someone venting their spite.

You can either live with it, or start posting under another pseudonym.

There's no stopping the score poisoning once it starts, and that is what originally drove me to use other names for posting stories of differing quality or category.

On the flip side, the benefit of staying with one name is generating a following that will tend to give you higher scores than a particular piece merits because you are (one of) their favorite(s). It is much harder to win without generating a following.

Or look deep inside and seek to change your personal motivation from the acceptance of the crowd to growth as a writer.

When that happens, you'll probably find yourself in the place I am, forever seeking and begging for negative feedback...

Tell you what: when you do get this kind of email from readers, tell the to go read my stories and rip them apart and send me the email. I'd appreciate it. In exchange, I'll ask the (few) people that send me glowing feedback and cannot think of anything I did wrong to go read your stuff.

*giggles*
i would but they're all anonymous... *sigh* well at least i know i'm not alone with the stalking evil gremlins... i guess even stupid peole read erotic stories =D heh heh...
i would mind it if they ripped my stories apart, i just dont understand why they're going to go "OMG, she would SO not put up with this treatment, i hope she turns around and reports him to the police" after i've spent several chapters setting up a story line where she LIKES what's happening... lol.

oh well. it's nice to know i'm not alone =D
