DADT is now repealed.

Would you have wanted to sign up if it was allowed when you were of age?

I am neither gay nor lesbian and I personally don't want to fight a war, but I want my gay grandson to have the right to join the military if he so chooses. It's a career choice he has been denied, because of bigotry, up until now.

What possible difference does it make? They're Americans, just like you and me, and entitled to the same rights we have.

That's a pretty over zealous response to a simple question. Feeling overly sensitive tonight?

No, just tired of stupid fucking questions like this. If you only realized how ignorant you're making yourself look, and I'm sick of southerners being seen as ignorant.

I'm not gay, but I'll hazard a guess as to how the answers would spread out: just like the answers from any other group of people: some would, some wouldn't.

Gee, there's a surprise.

Nope-- I was raised by anti-war hippies.

Never occurred to me that I might have been better off in the Army. I think so now.

Assuming there were a POTUS who could be trusted with the lives of that many people, which hasn't been true very often since the mid century mark.

I'm not Gay, but it wouldn't have bothered me anyhow. I served with Gay and Lesbian personnel and they did their assigned duties as we all did. What they did off duty was no concern of mine and they were nice folks. Once the rounds start popping, the whole sex orientation thing becomes irrelevant. I'd rather have a brave Gay guy giving me covering fire than a cowardly straight dude. ;)

Gay people are stupid.

They want to get married? They want to enlist in the military? These are things that most right-thinking people seek to avoid! They are trying to destroy the best reason to be gay in the first place: to not have to get married or serve in the military! Dumbasses!!!

No more so than how bitchy you make yourself look by acting like this. Several people have answered the question with apparently no ill will.

It was a simple question that I'm curious about. You had to come off as the bitch police. Maybe you're the one that makes southerners look stupid because of your knee jerk reactions.

and I care what you think of me because......?

Apparently, people are just as backwards in Kentucky as the stereotype.

Gays cannot deal with sex as sex, it has to be a show all are required to attend, and its a logo they affix to every aspect of their life...like an NFL merchandiser. They wear their gay sweatshirts and baseball caps and official gay underoos and drink from official gay slurpee cups.

Did the mean lady hurt your widdle feelings?

Sure, Cloudy goes off on assholes, everyone knows that. Your question could very easily have been the beginnings of a gay bashing session; carny, wet_blanket, and jimmyblojob are trying to make it so. Why don
t you prove Cloudy is wrong by answering them reminding them that you did not ask for straight hater's opnions about gay people?

Feelings hurt? Not at all. I asked a simple question and she came off bitchy. Surprise coming from her, I know.........

I've been on this site for years. Am I a bigot? Am I a gay basher in any way? The question was directed towards gays and lesbians. I didn't ask the opinion of anyone else.

Since I seem to have your attention, I realize you've already answered the question, But: Have you ever seen any kind of study that shows how many gays and lesbians WANT to or would like to be in the military?

I've never seen any kind of numbers for this, and I'm curious as to what they are.

As I noted the other day, any claim of statistics on what gays think/do is bogus; there's no way of telling/isolating who in society is gay to any degree or reliability.

Am I supposed to care what you think about me? If so, I didn't get that memo.

I think it's classic that a native american living in Bama is trying to talk about the stereotypes of others.

Dude, they are ALREADY THERE!!!! Eliminating DADT just makes it legal for them to admit it!

Just in case your question pertains to the patriotism of the LGBTQ community, I just want to say that gays and lesbians love this country every bit as much as straight people do (and are willing to defend it just as much). That's why we are fighting so hard to be an equal part of it!

Agreed, but there's a lot that didn't join because of it.

Where do you get it pertains to patriotism? I asked what I thought was a very simple, straight forward question and some seem to be wishing to turn it into something else.

I get it because you felt the need to ask the question in the first place! Unless I missed it there isn't a prior post of your's asking why heteros would want to join the military is there? If so, please point it out.

Therefore, I thinks it's QUITE safe to assume that you think that members of the LGBTQ community may not be as willing/interested in serving their country and/or are as patriotic as str8 people.

Yeah, since you asked, you have expressed some bigoted opinions. Enough that I had you on ignore for quite a while. Don't ask me what or when though; I'm not going to do your work for you. I was insulted, and I don't feel like being re-insulted for your convenience, if you know what I mean.

Since I seem to have your attention, I realize you've already answered the question, But: Have you ever seen any kind of study that shows how many gays and lesbians WANT to or would like to be in the military?

Exactly? or a rough approximation? :D
Google might be your friend. As it is, we know that a lot of troops who have been forced out would like to return;

At least 11,000 service members have been discharged under “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the 1993 policy that bans gays and lesbians from serving openly. (The Pentagon has collected data only since 1997, so the number is likely higher, with gay-rights groups estimating the figure closer to 14,000.) Nearly 1,000 specialists with vital skills —Arabic linguists, for example—have been forced out, meaning millions of taxpayer dollars spent on military training have gone to waste. According to a 2010 report by the Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA that focuses on gay legal and policy issues, the U.S. Armed Forces spend about $22,000 to $43,000 to replace each individual discharged under DADT, and the discharges continue today.

Where do you get it pertains to patriotism? I asked what I thought was a very simple, straight forward question and some seem to be wishing to turn it into something else.
You underestimate the amount of gay bashing that has gone on in this forum via certain members, and you are associated with those members.

Don't ask straightforward questions, if you actually care; If you're not trying to set a trap, SAY SO.

For those of you with freckles who never enlisted, would you have enlisted if you didn't have freckles?

I'm sure that you had me on ignore because of my pro gun, pro individual freedom, fiscally conservative views. I remember you questioning me on my sig line once. That's okay though, I can agree to disagree with someone.

However....... I take GREAT offense at you calling me bigoted. I have never been anti gay-bigoted anything. I very much have a live and let live attitude when it comes to such things. I'd say that you extrapolated your disagreements with me in other areas into this one.

If I ever did personally insult you, I don't remember it and didn't know it. It's very possible I insulted your politics at some point or another, but that's different than a personal insult. I can't remember ever intending to personally insult you.

If I did, I guess we're even now because you've personally insulted me by calling me a bigot when that's absolutely not true.

As far as any other gay bashing that may have happened on this board, I don't know. I've not been frequenting the board for awhile, so I haven't been keeping up. Because someone else did it, don't take it out on me and call me something that I'm not.
