I have a story called "Hell's Gate" and for some time I've wanted to place pictures within and between the text of this tale. I can't help thinking that it would improve the story line no end if people could see various images depicting what was going on in the tale. I also believe it would make the story even more erotic, but I don't know if A) this can be done or B) whether it would be allowed on this site.

Another thing I'm not sure about is whether one could look for said images and be able to use them, without infringing on copy right toes?

Any thoughts would help.

I posted an illustrated poem a few years ago, but I don't remember the process... however it certainly can be done on this site, there is a category for it and everything.

As to rights, by far the simplest thing is to use your own pictures. Otherwise, there are several sites where you can buy non-royalty based rights to use a photograph for a very nominal fee... however, such photographs are not likely to be explicit. It just depends on how you intend to illustrate.

As far as LIt's posting guidlines are concerned, you have to be the copyright holder of pictures for illustrated stories. If youcan document permissionto use the images, Laurel might make an exception, but they definitely prefer pictures you created yourself.

As for whether you can convert a regular submission to an Illustrated story, I don't see why not. Just submit an edited version with the image placements clearly indicated and indicate (with links) where the images can be downloaded from in the comments field. (attachments in the Forum are ideal because that puts them on Lit's servers and saves time.)

Use the original title with -- Revised -- appended ("revised" instead of "edited," because you're doing more than correcting errors.)

Thanks guys, from your replies though I can see this is quite impossible for me, as I don't know anyone over here except my wife. The idea still has merit, but too costly to get done correctly, or at least how I envisage it.

Can you imagine reading the part where Courtney is being taken by unseen forces, with a picture of a model standing with her arms outstretched and her pussy lips opened (With the aid of some plastic ring or something like that) and how erotic that would look and feel to the reader.

Oh well, a shame but that's life. lol

Thx again

Carl

Hi Carl. Long time no see.

Maybe you could find someone who could make illustrations? Possibly easier than finding a model and setting up an erotic photo shoot. There are a bunch of talened ones right here on Lit, maybe someone would be interrested in a collab?

"Imagining" is part of what should be considered in doing this, incidentally. Including actually illustrations shuts down on the possibility for the reader to tailor what they're reading to their own chosen concepts. There certainly are a lot of literalists around who like not to have their imaginations worked, of course, but conversely . . .

What about Creative Commons licensed images that share some copyrights?

The easiest way to submit a story with illustrations is to do it with a word document. Place the pictures in the document where you would like them to be and submit the document as Harold suggested. The Lit staff will take it from there.

The category must also change to Illustrated.

How much is your wife into your erotic writing? (Mine tolerates rather than supports.)

If she's a supporter, there are lots of ways that pictures of her could maintain her anonymity...

Having said that, I'd second the opinion already given: that lots of readers actually prefer to use their own imaginations, rather than being forced into particular images. After all, tube8 and such cater to the explicit image market; Literotica will appeal more to those who want just text - allowing their own imaginations to take charge.

Look on this as a winning situation: if you can take pictures, that's one kind of victory; if you can't, that's just another way to win!

They're legally useable, I suppose. Lit still prefers outright copyright ownership, just as they do for the text of the story.

The easiest way to submit a story with illustrations is to do it with a word document.

Actually, submitting the whole thing as a Word document is easiest for the author, but a serious PITB for converting to Lit's database and HTML format.

First, the images have to actually be embedded in the file to submit them that way, which makes for a HUGE word file (huger than M$'s normal disregard for efficient disk or memory usage makes unillustrated MSWord files. :()

Second, getting embedded files out of a Word document onto Lit's servers in the Illustrates stories image folder is difficult and time consuming.

The quickest way to get an illustrated story posted is to make getting the picture onto the servers as easy as drag and drop on your local computer -- which means uploading them directly to Lit; as forum attachments until Lit provides a more direct upload to the story servers.

Thread Jacking....

I don't have any helpful advice Carl... but welcome back hope you and your lady are doing great.

Carl,
If your words don't do it on their own no pictures in the world will help.

Thanks Liar and Liz for the welcome back comments, it's good to be writing again.

Foxseeker, if you'd ever read Hell's Gate you'd know that it doesn't need pictures. I only wanted to make it even more stimulating by utilizing a few well chosen images.

Thx again for all the advice.

Carl
