Ok guys, is this normal?

You may have noticed my thread about my tootaches. I have been to the dentist on friday (twice) and they drilled and fixed three teeth. Saturday was. Sunday was fine. Now today, about three hours ago, my teeth have started aching again. It feels a little different, so I'm still hoping it's just normal after so much dentist work on them. So is it a normal pain that will go away again? Or do I have to go visit the dentist for the third time in a week ? :(

More important, will I be able to sleep this night? Aaaaarrrgggghhhh.

(If there is a god, why the fuck did he make our teeth sensitive to sugar and stuff?????)

I take it you had lots of fillings, Snoop?

Maybe the fillings have expanded a bit and are causing inner pressure on your teeth, making them ache. Or, your teeth might have shifted slightly, due to the work done. This might settle down in a day or two. But, that's only guesswork.

I hope it does get better, sweetie!

you should take some tylonol or advil. you're teeth will probably be sensative for a few days after getting dental work.

I'd call the dentest though, just to be sure. He/she might also have a recomendation.

Thnx sweetie,

Yeah, I had three fillings, one of them reaching as far as the tooth-root (don't know the correct english word for it). I just pray that I don't have to undergo a root-treatment. Ouch. :(

I took some painkillers and right now it's ok, but a few moments ago, I could have killed someone just to make the pain go away.

I guess I would have already called the dentist but it's near ten p.m. here. I just needed to know, call it a quick ease of mind, lol.

*hugs* snoops...If it's really THAT painful i'd look at another dentist visit. I can't see just dental work causing you a great eal of pain. See how you do taking painkillers but if the pain is still ocming through don't muck about, get them teeth seen too

Yeah but wouldn't you just HATE that? First of all, the desk-women there already must know me by name, lol but then it would also be another half-day off work and I bet my boss is already a bit angry about me taking time off.

Anyone else think it'S pretty unfair that some people can eat chocolate in tons, not brushing their teeth for months and have the shiniest white teeth and shortest dentist-visits and some people like brush their ass off, yet their teeth look like the Grand Canyon ... only larger?

'I guess that's life?' as Ol' Blue Eyes probably would have said.

Snoops..well maybe it'll all be ok..but I just don't want you to leave it and end up making it worse.

And for the care you deserve a big  and a long tight hug. (Man, I wish there was someone there to hug me in real life, that must be the best painkiller, right?)

I guess you would have been given some pretty powerful pain killers if they were doing root canal treatment. Maybe the effect wearing off and nerve 's re-exerting their presence.

There is a tendancy for local swelling following any incursion into tissue (didn't quite come out as intended), this may be exerting pressure on nerve ending.

Take an anti-inflamatory, Ibruprofen or something similar will reduce swelling and pain. Avoid hot and cold drinks and sugar for a couple of days.

If it still hurts, go back to the dentist.

When I have toothache a little brandy warmed to body temperature and swilled around the mouth does the trick, half a bottle later, I sound asleep.

Speaking from unwanted experience sometimes pain can return as everything settles back into place.

My advice take your painkillers, fill your hot water bottle and retire to the roof of your kennel!

Hope it passes soon, very soon. Grin and bear it!

Lucky for you that you posted on the correct medical thread, you wouldn't want a surgeon givin you dental advice.

I often moonlight as a quasi-dentist, get up in my chair and put your feet in the stirrups  , close your eyes and open wide and say Arrrrggghhh  and I will take a peek.

Here we go again.

Yeah.

2:40 a.m. Can't sleep. Fucking toothaches. Same as friday.

First thing in the morning - dentist.

Well, at least, I'll bring my dentist's kids through college.

(Seriously, I'm close to crying right now)

Ima sorry I joked, did you take some aspirins?

Jesus, snoop. Get your dentist to give you some fucking antibiotics to get the infection out of your system immediately! Call him and get his ass out of bed right this second. That's why he's driving a fancy car.

Do it!!!!

Well, actually I suppose it is some kind of infection or anything. If it is, what will be the procedure? Just some antibiotics? Any experience with that? How long does it take to get rid off it? (I just want to be able to estimate the ammount of pain and time I'll go through with this)

No need to be sorry, really. It's just really annyoing. I mean, I haven't been in this kinda pain for quite some time. And when you already have been to the dentist twice and still nothing happened (except she brought me through the weekend without any pain, that's quite strange) it's just purely annyoing.

I did take aspirin and some stronger stuff my dad suggested me, didn't work.

Well, I'm gonna get my MD-player and listen to some easy music just to try to relax, if I can't get no sleep anyways.

Always make the best of it, right?

OK if you have toothache NOW at your age . . . damn. I had my first tooth removed recently. Why? Filling fell out in July. I could not, did not want to spend the money. Well, boy, you want your teeth . . . cut the cavity off now, and go to dentist, get it filled. It ain't no fun getting a tooth pulled. It is deinately not fun not eating for months. I thought it would go away, the pain, but no, it, the tooth, will turn to mush, Go now! If you can. BELIEVE ME!

Well, I got them filled. (three of them) But that doesn't seem to be the problem. Either it'S another one that's yet to bediscovered. (another x-ray) or it's an infection, or who knows, something with the roots. But I believe you that it's no fun to get a tooth pulled. Dammit, I never got friendly with dentists to begin with. I'm not as anxious as I used to be but it's still pretty tense.

Hi Snoopy, you don't know me, but I do feel for you! It really sucks to hurt after some routine procedure the docs say you shouldn't hurt after.

I'd echo the advice to be on the phone to your dentist first thing in the morning. In the meantime, a hug from me, if that helps any...

Yeah, that helps. Thnx a lot for your post, even if we don't know each other yet.

And i'm just going there before calling. Because I need something fixed, whatever it may be. Another sleepless, painful night would be hell.

Toothaches come from an infection in the nerve of the tooth. If your dentist is just giving you pain meds, he's not treating the underlying problem, which is infection. Call his rich ass right now and get him out of bed to get you some penicillin.

At the very least tell him on no uncertain terms tomorrow, "I need some antibiotics."
