Hey all, I'm new to posting on the forums, although I've read a lot of stuff.

Anywhozzle, I did some reading on the submission guidelines for poetry, but I'm confused, does the poetry have to be more than 750 words, too?

I'm sure it's posted somewhere, but I think I'm blind :)

Thanks!

Nope, it doesn't. While you're wandering the boards, you may want to take a peek over here, too.

Hello Lolita!

No, you're not blind! :)

Poetry does not have to be a specific length, and the majority of the poetry information is included in this Forum: Poetry Feedback and Discussion

I included a link to an informational thread: Welcome and Information for New Poets

The experts there will help you out!

Good luck!

:)

What is poetry?

Poetry doesn't have to rhyme, have rhythm or even form.

I like Coleridge's definition "the best words in the best order".

That covers all kinds of writing but fits poetry best.

I write doggerel and limericks just for my own amusement but I wouldn't define the 'poems' I have posted on Literotica as poetry. In some sense they are but I think a poet should be trying to show us something that cannot be expressed in prose.

I sometimes think of cheating. If I have finished a short story in less than the 750 word Literotica minimum I think of posting it as poetry. To me it is my attempt at "the best words in the best order" otherwise I would have written more than 750 words.

But I am assured by feedback from Anonymous that I am not and never will be a poet. Who am I to disagree? Anonymous is the most prolific critic on Literotica.

I did have to paraphrase the comment to avoid using the characters **** too many times. Anonymous expressed that opinion frequently and appears to inhabit many locations simultaneously.
