I have two lava lamps and a glitter lamp.

I'm leaving for the bus station about 5:00 to pick up a friend then we are meeting my family for dinner and such, will be back here around 8:00. I was wanting to leave the lamps on so that they would be heated up and umm.. doing what they do when we get home since it takes a couple of hours for them to get going.

Is it safe to leave them on when no one is home? I'm assuming it is since it is just a lightbulb underneath the globe

No hun...its not recommended. I would be hestitant to do so in case it got knocked over somehow.

Mine needs about an hour to warm up before it works. But the label clearly says to not leave it unattended.

Wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes.

You might want to put them on the floor just in case. Hell, dryers aren't supposed to be left unattended, yet how many people here do just that?

Well, they are up high, and my door will be closed...

Here is a pict of the glitter lamp and the coca cola lava lamp *grins*

*grins* I love coca cola stuff. I don't a lot because my ex kept most of it. But what I do have is pretty cool *smiles*

Don't leave the lava lamps on.

And should I call every 10 minutes to make sure you're ok? *smiles*

My apartment is over-running with the stuff. Bottles and cans from all over the world, knick-knacks, coasters, even a collection of the Coca-Cola pin-up girls from the 40s.

no dear do not leave on even on the floor the heat of them is reflected down seen them scorch tables that they have sat on.

Timer

I guess you can go to a shop and buy a timer. You know, you plug it in as an adapter between the lamp and the wall socket, and set it to start at say 3 pm, so that the lamp is warm enough, but not possibly overheated, when you come home at 5 pm or something. Go and ask in any electricity shop.
Apart from that, I agree that you should be careful with the lamps.

They only have a refrigerator light bulb underneath them...its no big deal...

I've fallen asleep and left mine on all night and they never scorched anything. Never had one fall over either though an old friend had a cat that knocked one over. Mine are up high where kitties can't get to them. I do seem to recall a warning in the instructions to avoid leaving them on for more than 12hrs. at a time, but like I said, never had a problem with mine.

Don't do it! those things get super hot... mine was hard for me to turn off even. I hated teh fact that you couldnt leave it on...

have fun with your visitor

Coca cola collectors unite!

I'll have to dig up the pictures I posted of my kitchen..
