Question about ladies accessories

A clutch purse should be big enough for Joe's list -- with Misty's additions -- 'cause purses are, like, magical and bottomless, fer sher.. I once knew this elf who, like, kept her armor and war saddle and a 15 foot lance in her purse of holding, yanno? :p

ya never know when you're gonna need a set of armor, saddle, and lance....it's best to be prepared.

Just saying.;)

Elisif was quite possibly the most fun AD&D character I ever came up with, but her purseof holding was a pain in the butt -- there was only a ten percent chance of finding what you were looking for, so getting that lance and armor out when she needed it was chancy at best.

Mary Poppins had such a "purse" first. Of course, it was a proper carpet bag.

Most folk going to the beach know to bring a tote. It'd have to be a surprise for the woman to end up with only her clutch. Either she wasn't expecting to go to the beach, or she expected someone else to bring the towel, sunscreen, etc.

Well, it all depends on the shoes, she can't decide which purse to carry until she picks out her shoes.

Does she have seersucker flip-flops on?

For that she should carry a small light beige clutch, containing just her normal sundry items and bible for light reading and shark repellent.

:D

She's wearing sandals at the moment. Is there such a thing as a summery clutch purse? Would that be the beige one? The seersucker outfit is very out of character for this woman. Perhaps she would be carrying her little black clutch purse, which would, of course, clash with her shoes, making her even more self conscious. (She's already self conscious about the outfit, since she's wearing nothing underneath!)

Is there anything smaller than a clutch purse? A hippie girl might be carrying a tiny little beaded buckskin sack, but this lady ain't no hippie.

Re: the tote bag - she's only going to the beach for a walk. She's too shy to strip down to a bathing suit. (gotta love those church girls)

What IS the situation? Did her church group decide to head down to the beach for a sermon? Or a wedding? Or even a Bible study? Or did she just leave church and it's near the ocean so she decided to take a walk?

If she knows they're going to the beach, she'd bring a tote with some necessities like a towel to sit on, maybe a bottle of water and the usual (keys, wallet and such). If she decides, right after church, to head down to the beach for a walk, then she's wearing what she wore to church.

What was she wearing to church? Well...what KIND of church is it and how old is she? The kind of church is important because there are those where the women all wear skirts past the knee and sleeveless tops are considered disrespectful; and then there's the kind where the women can wear something a little more relaxed and casual, like light, summery skirts and a sleeveless top. Sandals suggests relaxed and casual. Which means a straightforward, over-the-shoulder purse. Something like this handbag:

A more formal denomination, and she might only have a small purse that has a long, over the shoulder strap, like this:

The larger one there is 9.5" X 9" by the way. But it's unlikely that she would be wearing sandals with such a purse. Not to a church were her hemline was to the knee and it would be disrespectful for her to wear a sleeveless top.

A clutch: http://slimages.macys.com/is/image/MCY/products/0/optimized/313520_fpx.tif?bgc=255,255,255&wid=273&qlt=90,0&layer=comp&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.7,1.0,0.5,0&fmt=jpeg

Is usually considered an evening bag or something you carry to more formal occasions. If the church were having a ceremony on the beach like a wedding, which was then going to move to a reception at the hotel on the beach and she decided to take a walk after watching these two people commit themselves to each other and Jesus, then she might have a clutch in hand--and she might be in some sort of nice dress with expensive sandals (which, by the way, she'd probably remove to walk barefoot in the sand).

What would a young lady carry with her for a walk on the beach? Not a big purse, right? Some kind of ??? She would be carrying a water bottle. Her outfit would be a little seersucker one-piece thing. She would be a rather conservative, church-going type of person.

This is for a story I'm working on, and I'd hate to get the details wrong.
Just her body, babe. What else is there to carry on a beach? OH - A surf board and a "No thanks, get lost" attitude.

Wow 3113. I did a google search of women's purses and got nowhere. Thank you so much.

The church girl has changed into her seersucker outfit for a beach adventure. It's something she's doing on a whim - like a dare to herself. She's not a practical-minded lady, which is why she wouldn't be toting a tote.

It's funny that I grew up in a beach town, but now that I'm stranded inland, I have to do research to figure out what a woman would take to the beach.

:D Google "Macy's" or "Bloomingdales" and look in the handbag section.

Here, bizarrely, is a picture of a bunch of senators in seersucker outfits for a "seersucker" event put on by Trent Lott  :

Take note of the ladies' shoes. Sandals don't go with the outfit, though tennis shoes would if need be. Practical or not, it's usually a bad idea (IMHO) to make a character completely stupid. It's unlikely that she'd be that ignorant of what she's in for in taking a walk on the beach. So she'd wear practical shoes to walk in (like tennis shoes), and she'd probably have a crossbody sort of mini-purse. The mini purse would not seem impractical to her. It's light, yet big enough for wallet/keys, etc. Much better for a walk than hauling a heavy purse or tote over one shoulder.

The outfit I have in mind is a gauzy one-piece thing (maybe it's not seersucker) with shorts on the bottom. The reason she's wearing this particular outift is because, years ago, at a pool party, I watched a lovely young woman with this style of outfit get tossed into the water, and when she climbed out, it was 100 percent obvious she wasn't wearing underwear. (The whole 'Saran Wrap' comparison comes to mind.) So it's more of a casual summer outfit than a Trent Lott seersucker suit.

Your comment about the tennis shoes makes perfect sense. I will re-dress the lady in the next re-write.

Thanks for the photos. I've always been a big fan of Trent Lott. He was one of the best things to ever happen to the Republicans; making them look like absolute fools.
