Hi, authors!

I'm nearly ready to submit my first story! I remember seeing a readme here about formatting, etc, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Is there some kind of html code I can use to make sure that the formatting is how I want it?

In the readme, I think it mentioned things like <i> and </i> for italics -- but I may be getting confused with other sites!

I know that you can use microoft word, but I only have notepad from where I do my writing, so it's all text format.

Thanks,

J.

Hi, inkstain. Looking foward to seeing your avatar.

I'll take a look. Been a while since I submitted anything:(

Have a look at my 'How-To'. I think it might be the one you're looking for.

Edited to add: Joe got there first!

Good article, Alex.

So, what are some of the other formatting codes we can use?

I kept the original article to bold and italic, so as not to piss off Laurel and Manu. You may have noticed, the pages here are all PHP, and I didn't want to fall over on any of the scripts that take our masterpieces and turn them into Lit web pages.

That said, the <center> ... </center> tags should work (fairly self-explanatory, I think!) as should <blockquote> ... </blockquote> which gives a left and right side indent - might be useful for ransom messages and the like in a story. Poets might want to use <pre> ... </pre> which should preserve their fancy formatting - but beware Lit's line length. It might be as well to check with Laurel before getting too clever.

Anyone wishing to know more about HTML could have a look at w3schools

Thanks. I'll probably stick to to bold and italic. Although the other stuff could come in handy, too. The one thing I'd really like is <hr> -- Horizontal rule. I use them a lot, and have to replace them when submitting to Lit. with a row of dashes. And I have to be careful how many dashes to use, so they don't wrap to the next line.
With a <hr> I wouldn't have to worry.

Joe.

Thank you Alex and dom joe for the link. Its just what i was looking for. Now that that's cleared up, all i need to worry about is the sex!

I have a table in my latest story (to be submitted). I don't care if the lines show up, but I would like it to appear chart-like. Without the HTML, I'd need a monospaced font. Not sure how to submit it.

In general, the Italics and Bold tags are all that Lit allows. Laurel has said in the past that maintaining a consistent look to Literotica's stories is important, so most HTML is banned from stories.

If you have a special formatting need -- like using blockquote for a ransom note --then make sure that you put a note in the comments that your story contains HTML and explaining the reason you feel it's needed.

If you don't put a notice in the comments, the scripts that automatically format submissions will strip any HTML from your story except for Italics and Bold.
