Question 1

What is the appeal of watching two women engage in intimate relations?

I seriously wonder. I have been told on NUMEROUS occasions that this scenario seems to play big time into male fantasies.

I'm not a particular fan of it, though I have enjoyed watching it on occasion.

I think that when this is a scenario that gets to me, it is just the combination of multiple sets of breasts, vaginas, and moans, all amplifying off each other. It's something great, having fun with something else just as great.

I think...

I knew I had answered this question before. Less than a month ago, in fact. I stand by my answer.

This is quite simple. FF sex is appealing to women because it's tender, romantic, sensuous, loving, and the very epitome of eroticisim. FF sex is appealing to men because we look at it as a sandwich that's missing the filling.

I'll go with Marshman's reply. Next.

The terrible thing, of course, is that I was plagiarizing . . . myself (and probably countless others, but I actually knew what I had written). In How to Write Romance, my loser in last year's How-to Contest, I tried to help newbies with the appropriate Romance nomenclature. And then I gave them a tour of the Lit categories:

Gay Male Romance: Oddly, many Literotica readers are unwilling to read a story that involves two rampant members and no fruitful loins.

***

Lesbian Sex Romance: The same readers who wouldn't be caught dead in a Gay Male story will happily wallow in a story that features two honeyed treasure palaces, probably on the theory that the two women involved are more than likely just killing time while they wait for a rampant member to show up.

Seriously, you didn't expect me to pass up a chance to plug a story, did you?

I don't know why. I don't need to know why, it just does.

Question 2. What is the appeal of watching a man and a woman engage in intimate relations? No one can answer that, either.

Of course not! Very well done. And I'm sorry for your loser. But I hope you don't find me immodest for noting that My Earth Day contest entry, Then and Now, won the top prize for coming in last!

With me it's simply that I don't like men at all. There's often an intimacy and passion that I like missing when men are involved.

Plus there's that 'sandwich missing a filling' thing that Marsh mentioned.

For myself, true to my name, my favorite sex act is eating a juicy pussy. One of my favorite things in porno is watching somebody eating a pussy. In WW movies, this is shown much better, for a longer time, more closeups and with better camera angles. That's not the only thing I like, but I think it is the main thing.

I love women, period. Thus, more women is a good thing, at least in general.

But I don't think I view lesbian sex in porn as an unfinished sandwich. I mean, it's not like there is a lack of FFM threesome stuff available.

Also, the idea runs counter to my own ideals about my own thinking. I don't find relationships between my female friends to be missing me... even if I am attracted to both of them. That's their relationship, not mine.

This is not to say there are not cases where I would gladly accept an invitation to join in... I mean, I'm a idealist, not stupid.

There is no appeal to me to WATCH it. To participate, though? Absolutely! Jeannette Winterson put it so well:

"Sex between women is mirror geography. The subtlety of its secret--utterly the same, utterly different. You are a looking-glass world. You are the hidden place that opens to me on the other side of the glass. I touch your smooth surface and then my fingers sink through to the other side. You are what the mirror reflects and invents. I see myself, I see you, two, one, none. I don't know. Maybe I don't need to know."

I'm not so into watching porn. In person, well, that's something else...

But, as a straight gal who works m/m scenes into just about everything I write, I'll say that it's incredibly erotic to imagine the interplay of two people one finds sexually attractive. I tend to think/write myself into all the characters, and imagining being a man with another man is also intensely erotic.

I think everyone will give you a "for me it's" kind of answer. So here's mine:

Two women having sex is twice as exciting as watching one woman. I enjoy seeing a woman orgasm (although I much more enjoy causing it). I also do not enjoy penises or the male form. So if a woman is the one causing a woman to orgasm, wonderful!

It has nothing to do with the intimacy stuff that some people have mentioned. I have seen plenty of hard lesbian sex, and enjoy it as much as the soft stuff.

ETA: Oh, and it has nothing to do with that sandwich metaphor. I enjoy the aesthetic, seldom to I picture joining in.

Which is fine as far as it goes, MA (I'm not disagreeing that F/F can be very erotic), but doesn't explain the attraction when one woman is vigorously pounding the other--in whichever orifice--with a strap-on. I suspect you'll find that to be a crowd pleaser as well. Kind of puts paid to the "romantic, sensuous, loving" thing.

I'll throw out a couple of ideas for discussion without claiming to be wedded to either: is part of the eroticism of girl-on-girl the fact that one or both is taking an active (and hence, temporarily assertive / "dominant") role in the proceedings? Or (and/or) is it that women are generally more overtly responsive (i.e., vocally, in physical movements) in their arousal than men?

Don't get hung up on the particular terms I used, folks, please. You know what the main ideas are.

I dunno, but I want to watch if and when Imp and Sarahh go at it. Strap-on or not...:D

Serious answer:

1. I like to see nekkid women.

2. I find it slightly naughty when nekkid women are nekkid together.

3. Not being female, I cannot answer with certainty, but would propose that two women being together would have much different dynamics without the goal of a male appendage squirting.

Okay, semi-serious answer.

Okay, semi-serious answer.

It's not the squirt that shifts the dynamic. It's the responsibility.

Seriously.

Remember Teri Garr's "I am responsible for my own orgasm" rant in Tootsie? It's that. Too often -- really -- men in M/F relationships are saddled (thanks to our cultural mores) with responsibility for both their own orgasm AND their partner's. When women fuck, an orgasm is a gift. You GIVE your orgasm to your partner -- and she appreciates it because she knows how vulnerable you just made yourself to give it. It's magnificent -- and it's something I've tried to bring to my relationships with men as well. Very empowering. Very liberating.

Ohhhh... oh... yes... god.

Yes...!

Just last night I was watching this scene in a movie, yes is was a porno, where two women were getting it on. And I asked myself this very question...

Why is this enjoyable to watch? I know I would never think of watching two men together, in fact I shudder at the thought.

I reasoned that it was because I so enjoy the female form. I enjoy watching the female form as it is brought to orgasm. I love watching a woman orgasm. If there happens to be two woman then the pleasure is doubled. Even if one of them is bringing the other off.

But I also like to give pleasure to a woman or women (if only that one would come true) even to the exclusion of my own orgasm. I love bring a woman to the brink, holding her there and then pushing her over the threshold and into the oblivion of pleasure beyond.
