Has anyone else seen the promos for this new show, which is coming soon on the Bravo channel?

The premise is apparently that six gay men get with a straight guy and teach him how to have "gay style", re-do his wardrobe, decorate his house, etc.

It looks like it will be a scream!

I havent seen the previews for this but I will be looking out for it. A show that I absolutely ADORE is "Queer as Folk".....but when hubby's around he doesnt let me watch it.

Hes not homophoebic and doesnt mind the sex scenes at all..its the romantic parts that seem to bother him......go figure...what does he know anyways! :D

Yes, I've seen the previews for this show. It looks hilarious. Like "What Not to Wear", but in your face by a bunch of gay men. Both my wife & I are looking forward to it.

I haven't heard of it, but we do get Bravo so maybe I'll give it a peek.

Aha, I found an ad for it in a recent issue of Out magazine. From the copy, I'd thought it was fiction.

Five gay men.
Out to make over the world.
One straight guy at a time.

I just Tivo'd the season pass. I love Trinny & Susannah on What Not to Wear (they're on So Graham this week), and I'm hoping this show has the same oomph to it.

I still haven't seen the previews, but I did hear today's All Things Considered (NPR) story on the show. It starts tonight at 10pm, don't miss it! (If you're interested, obviously.)

Well, I watched it. It's a cool concept (even if it is kind of like E! Fashion Emergency), but I'm not sure about the implementation.

The fashion guy seemed flamey at first, but then I realized he's just annoying. He's catty bordering on rude. And wasn't "super, thanks for asking" a direct ripoff of South Park's Big Gay Al? He also dropped a ton of brand names...that kind of got on my nerves. And "was that soy sauce or boy sauce" - puh-lease!

The food guy seems like every other food guy I've seen - vaguely snooty, and orientation isn't that important.

Was it deliberate to have the first guy named Butch?

I do like the tips for the rest of us - I didn't know the bit about combining denims. The "kitchen blowtorch" line at the end was totally awesome.

Does anybody have the courage to call 1-866-LUV-FAB5?

I missed most of the first show, but I caught a later ep (did anyone else know that there would be one? I was confused, but watched) and found it cute.

I don't think it's any more catty than what not to wear, or fashion emergency...both of which usually drive the person who's being done over to drink or tears.

I think the fashion guy was just excited about the show. He seems to be more at ease in the second episode (which aired right after the first). And Mr. Mischka said he really appreciated the brand names - he said that generic advice on clothes doesn't help, if he doesn't know where to shop. And since he prefers keeping clothes shopping to a minimum, knowing the brands to look for streamlines the process. I even think he looked at Wilsons Leather on-line last night.

I liked him the best. :)

They should make them a franchise operation. The Fab 5 gave great advice for a New Yorker, but a casual blazer isn't working in Houston or Santa Fe in the summer. We'd melt down here in that stuff.

Oh, and Angel - I don't remember how much Tivo costs. We have it bundled with the satellite dish. Fifteen extra a month, maybe? Whatever the cost, it's worth it.

Ah! I didn't realize I missed the second episode. 11pm is past my bedtime, I went to bed as soon as the first one ended. :D

Darn, I missed it. But I'm sure they'll replay it often.

I just got something in the mail from DirectTV... they're offering a Tivo/Direct TV package... $199 initial, then $44 a month... that's only about $5 more than what I'm currently paying for dish a month.

I saw both episodes and thought it was pretty entertaining. I'm trying to convince my husband. He needs someone other than me to tell him that even men should groom their eyebrows!

OMG - yes! LOL...

My H and I were just talking about that the other day!

I'm watching the second episode now, and...what happened to Jai? He's still in the opening credits, but they've got a guy named Blair doing culture this time. I looked at the website for the show the other day, and Jai is there...so who is Blair?

I'm so confused!

Omg... it was hilarious!

I saw the episode where they made over the artist - Butch - today. It was great! The guys were so stinkin' funny.

‘Queer Eye’ ratings hit for Bravo

Cable network draws large numbers from 18-49 demographic

LOS ANGELES, July 17 — The premiere episode of ”Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” in which five gay men with expertise in fashion, food, grooming, culture and design remake a straight man, set new ratings records for cable channel Bravo, the network said Wednesday.

CITING DATA FROM Nielsen Media Research, Bravo said the show’s Tuesday debut at 10 p.m. ET set new benchmarks for the NBC-owned network among total viewers, household ratings and ratings for key audience demographics of viewers aged 18-49 and 25-54.

The 18-49 demographic is the one generally most favored by advertisers as their core audience, while some networks rely on the 25-54 audience as a more mature target group.

Bravo said the show averaged 1.64 million total viewers, which made it the No. 2 ad-supported cable network during the hour. Bravo had previously ranked No. 38 in that hour season to date.

Bravo said the show’s ratings were nine times better than last season’s average in audiences 25-54 and more than seven times better than its average in calendar year to date.

While the show has generated significant buzz, it also garnered some harsh reviews. In Tuesday’s Washington Post, leading TV critic Tom Shales questioned whether the show was too patronizing.

“Forced to choose between scorn and condescension, gay people could hardly be blamed for preferring the latter — and thus might not object to the stereotypes on parade in the series, which each week dispatches five New York gay men to rescue some poor, style-starved straight person at a crossroads in his life,” he said in his column.

Bravo is preparing for the July 29 debut of “Boy Meets Boy,” another gay-themed show, in which a bachelor chooses a prospective match-up from a group of eligible men. The twist, however, is that some of the men are actually straight, leaving the bachelor to try and sort out who’s who.

Bravo and NBC are units of General Electric Co.

NBC plans to air a condensed version of Bravo's lifestyle makeover series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy July 24, following Will & Grace.

The style-conscious series, about five gay men delivering a much needed touch of cool to clueless straight guys, came out with a bang last Thursday, delivering record ratings for its debut episode.

More than 1.6 million viewers were drawn to the one-hour cable-net series--about five times the network's average audience. The show also made Bravo the second most watched cable network for the hour.

"After as much media attention and a breakout premiere on Bravo, we want to offer this unusual series a bigger platform," said NBC entertainment prez Jeff Zucker in a statement released Friday.

However, the crossover is described as a onetime only event to boost Queer Eye's exposure.

For a really fabulous time, watch this show in a room full of gay men.

What a scream!

We watched the one with the long haired rock and roll dude who wanted his girlfriend to move in with him.

"Hello, there's a hooker in Newark missing her shoes."
