Ok, I've finished the editing of my new story and I'm ready to submit it to TPTB. However, it's the end of the month and it might only take three days for approval. Thus I will only have a few days to rack up votes for the monthly contest. Do I chance it taking a few days longer for approval or wait till the first of the month to submit said story?

Do stories frequently get submitted at the end of the month, creating a backlog....or is the end of the month a complete desert of submissions?

Or is the beginning of the month the biggest backlog, with people holding their stories in order to compete in the monthly contests?

And aren't I full of questions tonight? LOL

I have to post around my work schedule so I have a window of around twelve days then I am gone for fifteen...I don't pay much attention to the contests, unless I happen to be able to write a story and submit it before it ends.

Of course, I am not here to write for the contests...I am here to...I guess, put my ideas of stories out there for all to read and enjoy. (Of course, I seem to have quite a few who don't enjoy my work...heh...especially lately. )

Stories accepted in one month will have all votes received through the 15th of the following month counted toward monthly contests. Therefore and fourscore, a story can have anywhere from six to two weeks of votes.

That's a big difference, but I've got a hunch it's a fairly insignificant one when it comes to vote totals. It's been the experience of most folks that well over 90% of a story's views and votes will be recorded during the week when it's on the New list. It's your call.

I never considered waiting to post because it is that time of the month. I write and when it is done I post. In fact I posted one tonight.

If you are thinking the most possible time for the most votes I guess you would submit on the last possible moment before the new month begins.

There is two ways of looking at it.

One there are less stories posted toward the end of the month so you are more likely to stay on the new list longer up front. As Rumpy says this is 90% of the initial votes on a story.

Two you have more time posting at the begining of the month, but you slide down the new list faster.

Three (I know I said two) if you write a great story on a great idea you don't have to care about the contests and new list, you will continually enjoy good feedback and good votes.

Aha! I learned something new!!! Thanks, RF *huggles*

Actually, I decided what the heck last night and submitted the story. But it's cool that it still has a chance for consideration :D

Thanks, Phildo :D I was a little unsure about how others looked upon the contests. I love to put my ideas down on paper...ermmm...pixels?! lol
