Workin' on this song. Kind of a love song. Got the meat of it - need a bridge and/or turn around, and possibly an ending.

Here's the general deal -

Bm, C#m, E, A.... the strum goes....
5 1 1 4

Then.....

F#m, D - F#m, A - F#m D - E.... strummed....
5 1 5 1 5 1 1

Then.....

D, A - D, A - over and over again for a bar and ending with a....

G#m, E......

But I forget the strumming for that last.

Help me out...

Does: Bm, C#m, E, A.... the strum goes....
5 1 1 4 mean

Bm C#m E A
///// / / ////

??

Yeah, I don't know......

very much musical notation or tab stuff - don't have a whole lot of patience for it - certainly don't practice it very much.

Do know how - to read tab and music - actually went to college for sight singing and the like - but fucking hate it. Just like grammar and the rules of the English language (can't you tell) I just like to spew shit.

But those slashes look like what I mean - yeah.

I'm using bar chords for those first two chords and cheating with the index finger on the E and the A. The rest are pretty much full bars (partially played on the low strings) or first position chords across all the strings.

It's a pretty cool little, simple, pretty song - ya can finger pick it to - or you can rock it up a bit and slam the chords.

PS - just ran spell check and I didn't even know how to spell grammar. Hah! Fuck me! I love myself!

Ok, that helps, just wanted to be sure that the numbers under the chords were referring to the number of strums for each chord. Got it. Will play as soon as I get home and maybe try to come up with something.

After strumming through the chords, (impossible to translate a boogie or a mode with a keyboard) I have to assume that the song is basically hovering arounf the key of "A"? I like the odd chords in there, Bm and C#m, maybe you can give me some more info.

Is this a 4/4 rhythm, or a country skiffle kind of feel, or more of a delayed bad-ump of electric folk you're going for?

I'd be tempted to try a Dm to a G kind of segue into the middle eight, ala Roy Orbison, or maybe I haven't really
figured out the feel yet.

PH......

I'm pretending to be Robert Zimmerman with a bit cooler chords and more of'em too. It's definately a folk/country Love Shuffle.

Thanks for the Dm G idea - working on'a words dis weekend.

If you are centering on Bm, that is the relative minor of D, so your natural modulation for the bridge would be to G or possibly Em
So the G Dm thing would work both ways round.(Dm G)
I might play Em C Bb C instead if you wanted to pull the melody in a more jazzy direction.
Send me a WAV or an MP3 and I'll do an arrangement for you!

Sparky, wouldn't it work better if you changed your second chord to a major like this?

Bm / C# major / E / A

Then keep all the next bit...

F#m, D - F#m, A - F#m D - E

D, A - D, A (repeated)

But instead change the E in the next bit to a G# MAJOR, like this (minor to major chords sound good sometimes):

G# minor, G# major

That leads nicely to an F# major, which might be a cool place to start your bridge from.

Well Roger.....

Still working on it - kind took some of your ideas and some from other's - then rearranged "the blocks" of chords a bit. Words today. Eventually need info on how to put a wave file(?)(don't even know if I'm spelling that right) up on the web.

Thanks.

KillerMuffin stuffs the 550 cord in her back pocket, hoping no one will notice, while she tries to look intelligently knowledgeable.

Do we get to hear it when you get it all figgered out? Some of us, sadly, are musically deficient.

It's a .wav file sweetie. Um, ask Xander, I hear he can still do email. I do the audio stories via a mic and a lovely little program called Sonic Foundry Acid 2.0. It's more for music than audio stories, but it will record indefinately. It also converts .wav files to mp3s. Otherwise the audio stories would be unweildy. My last one was 12 megs mp3. It was about 70 megs .wav. A little trip to the puter store might be in order, or maybe the music store.

Well, I've got Acid.....

And Vegas at work. Not too good with them yet but did burn an original composition (composed on Acid) to CD the other day - just haven't created a wav file yet - but think that will be pretty easy. But once I've got that - then what? Where can I put it? How can people hear it? Does it have to go on a site? A webpage? My own webpage? Napster? What? What's the best and easiest?

The Uber dumby wants to know - please.

What's an uber anyway? Is it a truffle? Truffles are tubers...

Your own website would be a good place to start. Xander has some things posted here, perhaps Laurel would be interested in it. When you save the file in acid and vegas, I could have sworn it was saved as a .wav file. I would check the size. Acid converts to mp3, I would imagine that vegas does too.

Take Napster by storm baby. They have a new artists section, but how to get into it is past my realm of knowledge. There are amatuer writer sites, there has to be amatuer musician sites, one would think. Perhaps I'll go play with my search engine...
