Anybody here have any experience with Boovies (Bouvier des Flandres)?? I have read up on them, but have no experience with them. I like them, and think I want one, but would like to hear the good and bad from others.

They are pretty gentle, but they are a large breed so they need to be watched around children (or visa versa).
I have read and heard that they are intelligent enough to know when to be gentle, yet make good protection dogs because they can be agressive at the right times too.

There are a lot of Bouvier rescue organizations out there because people get them and have no clue as to what they are getting themselves in to.
I have been looking into them for some years, but have never met anybody who actually had experience with them. I think I have afeel for what they require, but would like to hear more from people with experience with them.

I need to wait until I have a place out in the country for the puppy dog to run around, and preferably until I have more time to spend with the dog. I have not gotten a dog because of those issues - dogs are not like cats, they need a lot more time and care.

Thanks for the info.

Try one of these.
They need space and just adore children

How about a Mutt?

Have you thought about adopting a dog from the Humane Soceity? I know there are good reasons not to(for some people) but I suggest at least giving it a thought. Nearly all the really good dogs I have been around have been mutts or hybrids(and I am around alot of dogs as I spend many weeks a year dog/house sitting). I personally will only ever own a mutt, I prefer genes that have been passed due to personality and good behavior rather than some description of ideal breed in a book.

OK, OK, so I came dangerously close to going on a rant.

As DA pointed out, there are a number of Boovies that need to be rescued. I really want a dog like a Boovie. I have had a number of dogs in the past, and while I like most dogs, I only really have room for one in the future, and I want it to be of a certain type and temperment.

If I can find a rescue Boovie that has good temperment and health, then I would rescue it - I don't want a real problem dog where I have to deal with shyness, or too much agression, or serious health problems. I don't need a show or breeding dog, just a good companion, and Boovies fit my temperment, I think.

I don't care so much about expense or upkeep, that I can deal with, I just want a fairly intelligent large dog that is powerful enough to pack their own stuff into the backcountry, isn't afraid of horses, firearms or bears, can easily survive cold and so on.

Those are actually beautiful and misunderstood, but, me not being a tree-hugger, I do try to sight my gun in when they go after MY deer.

I know you mean that in jest (right?) but the wolves are good for the deer, keeps them from overpopulating. I like my wilderness wild; I am very glad to see the reintroduction of wolves to the PNW, and the fact that grizzlies have been seen as far south as Mt. Rainier park is just downright cool!
