I'm sure this has been done to death, but humor me...I'm not here for a couple of weeks at a time and probably miss all the good posts on this subject.

I have enabled them on all my stories, and even though some of them are quite...well...harsh about my writing or the story in particular...I have not edited them out or touched them.

Have you edited out comments?

Have you even opened public comment on any of your stories?

What is your take on public comments anyway?

Just...curious

:)

Hi Curious!

In answer to your questions...

Have you edited out comments? Nope. Every single one that has been posted on my stories has stayed. I've never had anything that might call for me to make a decision like that, though (I might now! :p). Heck, even if it was bad, it would stay. If it attacked me, personally, and had nothing to do with the story, I might consider deleting it, but I might not.

Have you even opened public comment on any of your stories? Yep, it's enabled on all of my stories. Only one of them hasn't got a public comment. One of them has 29!

What is your take on public comments anyway? I love 'em! Actual email feedback has dropped off a lot since PC's came in, but I love the fact they are there for all to see. I do think it encourages more comments on the stories.

That is funny, I notice my feedback's dropped a lot too. I wonder...perhaps people feel that they don't need to comment to you since obviously others have already?

I have had a few 'Anons' use them to attack me, my stories and other items of interest to them...of course, quite a few show their anger is directed at the characters in my story so...I can understand that.

I kind of like/hate the public comments, but I plan on keeping them on for the foreseeable future. What the heck...let people see just what does get said to us on or about our writing. Shows that it isn't all praise and roses.:D

Thanks Tatelou:rose:

Have you edited out comments?

No, and I've had a couple of rough ones, but the funny thing is, someone usually comes along and let's 'em have it, so I don't need to edit them.

Have you even opened public comment on any of your stories?

Yep, all of them. I only have 4 up at the moment, and one pending. I like reading what people have to say, good or bad.

What is your take on public comments anyway?

As I said, I like them. I get close to an equal amount of feedback in email as well. Anything to help me become a better writer.

I have gotten some good comments in that they point out some of my...failings and even go one to say why. Some just don't like the area my writing seems to be in...having a hard time with it for whatever reason. I can even use that negative commentary for my next stories as it helps to guide me somewhat.:D

I enable everything and so far have never edited out any. I find it interesting.

Have you edited out comments? NOPE

Have you even opened public comment on any of your stories? YEP. ALL OF 'EM

What is your take on public comments anyway? THEY'RE OKAY.

PC's seem to have cut down on e-mail feedback. Responses tend to be front loaded. That is most show up the first day or two the story is posted. I've got a hunch there are more anon messages than was the case in the pre-PC days.

Question: Is the system supposed to send a notice when there's a new PC comment? It may just be my creaky, old system, but I'm not getting any--notices that is.

Rumple Foreskin

I've enabled public comments on my more recent stuff, haven't edited any out. I like the feature, but I wish there was a "reply" function." Or maybe there is and I'm not finding it.

I also like seeing what comments people have made on others' stories, though sometimes this boggles me. Maybe I'm just too picky about the kinds of things I like to read, and judge them too harshly.

Ihave replied by using the public comments or a time or two...using the members name if used.

The comments have been interesting but I don't think there is an e-mail function with them like with the feedback. Too bad really, especially for me since I travel back and forth to work and can't get on to lit for fifteen days in a row.:( (I leave in the morning for this fifteen day tour as a matter of fact. I will check back on this thread when I get back though, so please continue to comment and give me your thoughts.):D

I like to get PC and email feedback, especially those that say they frig or wank themselves to my stories. I have never deleted a PC except those that I sent to myself to test the system when it opened. I would only delete those that were offensive or just dumb. One email I got once after I wrote an interracial story said something like "Great story. Fuck all n_______. I deleted the email and if I had a PC like that I would delete it also. If a PC was just dumb, I might leave it just to show how dumb some people can be or I might delete it.

Have you edited out comments?

Yes. I didn't think they were appropriate. They can troll the story all they like, but not leave horrible comments for all to see - that starts to impact on readers, and a few times I have pc's commenting on what other pc's have said.

What is your take on public comments anyway?

I only had 1 or 2 stories pre-pc's, so I don't know what feedback was like back then in the dark ages :D. I find I get more feedback as my reader base builds with each story, but I have nothing to compare it with, and probably don't get much compared to others.

Every time I change my members page [I do it often to keep people on their toes :D] I get lots of email simply because of that. So maybe try this, because I think it adds a personal touch.

I never get the "I cum so hard" feedback that BL gets, and wouldn't know what to do if I did! But that is probably because I get mostly female readers.

But the funny thing about PC's is that when people leave their name, I check out their member's page to see if I'm on their favourites! Cheeky, I know.

Me too!!!

I've only had one troll on my story...but for that one, the reader response was so fiercely supportive of it(and cutting for the trolls) that I decided to leave it on...as a matter of principle. Okay, also wanted to savour my triumph at the amount of support...but anyway.

Unless the comment was a personal attack, I always leave them there. Its a sign of respect, I think, indicating that you care what people think about what you've written.

Actually, the majority of "I cum so hard" feedback that I get is from women. That is very gratifying to me because I try to write for women, and I have done so ever since I started writing porn last year. At one time, before I joined Lit., there was a group of women, more than 50 at one time, that I sent stories to but I had to stop doing that for diverse reasons.

There used to be a program around that would analyze a piece of writing and determine if it was written by a man or a woman. It always described me as a woman, unles the story I was writing was in the gay male category. I never set much store by it but, to the degree that I did, I was pleased by its errors.:) :)

You know, it's weird...after reading your post, BL, I realized that the "I came so hard" feedback I get is from men! 3 of my 4 stories posted so far are written in first person from a woman's POV, so I wonder why it is that most of my feedback is from men???

My feedback has dried up too... But I haven't had any public comments either, I think there are a bout 4 all told for all my stuff, and two of those were from friends saying hello:D

I'm afraid I've long since abandoned any real interest in the voting / commenting system... I had to log into my profile when I read this thread to see if I had any PC's and what the voting stood at... about three months since I last looked.

It's because they're guys, cloudy! :D

(And God love 'em!)

I have Public Comments and voting up on all my stories. I really love the PC and these days I tend to check for new comments and not pay that much attention to the voting.

After some personally vicious statements I disabled both for my poems (although I haven't deleted the comments; whenever I have the need to feel rotten I can still access them).

(But I should state that there are truly positive comments on my poems, too - and I can still be pleased with those.)

Rumple, I don't receive notification about new PC, either - I hope that can be added to the system sometime?

:)

I love getting public comments and am always grateful that folks take the time to leave me some feedback. I like to read what it is that they enjoyed or didn't. I've had most of my email responses within a couple of weeks of posting and a few more trickle in every now and then. It's possible that when you get a public comment and it appears for a while in the Feedback Portal you may get a few more readers to your story and some of those may be inspired to comment too?

I've had a couple of women say my story made them wet and a number of men say they had favourable responses...I'm a bit awed and flattered by that, it's kind of nice to think you can get a physical response from a reader.

Lately I've been trying to make an effort to leave more comments for authors. I've never edited a comment left for me.

Cloudy you may be interested in the Writers Submission Guidelines for Nexus books. I'm writing a liitle article about erotic fiction and came across this a couple of weeks ago. Seems in their market research they found, "The overwhelming majority of Nexus readers prefer to see things from the female point of view most of the time".

Their primary market is a male one. My story is written in the first person from a woman's pov too and that's specifically what a number of male readers have told me they liked. Seems like we're onto something?

I have the public comments turned on. I like 'em, although like others I've noticed a slowing down of the conventional feedback. Not that there was all that much of it to start with. . .

I've only ever deleted one, and that was because it was a duplicate. I guess I'm lucky, in that they've all been pretty positive, but then I don't write anything controversial. Even the criticism tends to be constructive. I might well have deleted a feedback that I received before the public comments facility went up, but if it had been a public comment I'm just perverse enought to have left it. It read -

"jesus christ! this is the most convoluted piece of dog shit I've ever tried to wade through. mickey spillane you ain't. come to think of it a couple of monkeys and a typewriter and we'd have something better than this. what a total and complete waste of time."

From anonymous, of course. I printed it out and it's taped up beside my PC to keep me humble.

LOL!

(Sounds like some of my poetry criticisms!)
