Public Comments versus Feedback

Just wondering whether those Authors who have had public comments on stories can say whether the amount of feedback they now receive through the feedback form is more or less the same as before.

I'm curious to know if there has been any significant difference since the implementation of the public comments option. I've only had two comments on older stories. Perhaps I will get a better feel for it when my new one goes online.

see no real value

Opened all stories to the public comments.

One so far, by a reader that must be young, and has not developed cognitive skills of much caliber yet. At least not substantial writing abilities.

He did like the story! That's a plus.

I have not finalized my thoughts yet, may eliminate the public comment section. I enjoy feedback!! Wish I would double/triple the amount I get. But, I will settle with what I receive.

I am getting better feedback on stories now than I did but I am including a paragraph at the end of every story or poem soliciting feedback. I think I am also getting higher votes so maybe my writing has improved also.:)

Hmmmmmmmmm

I have no public comments as yet, but still receive the odd feedback e-mail now and again.

Lovely young girl wrote to me the other day actually, very pleasant and appreciative. I must reply ASAP.

I haven't noticed any difference since turning on all of the public comments. I still get the same amount of feedback.

Well, I have a whopping 7 public comments on my newest story. The most that I had before that was 4. Email feedback seems to have remained about the same.

What I like about the public comments...now everyone can see what an author is getting for feedback, most likely.

Like in one story of mine, one 'reader' has objected to my whole story, chapter by chapter...well most of them anyway. Kind of amusing. Why keep reading it if it upsets you so much?

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to keep my feedback between me and the readers rather than put it out there for all the world to see.

I seemed young? How young?

:)

I have a thread in the author's forum, open comments, and feedback enabled. As a new author I can't offer comparison, however, I can say that every response I have received is duplicated in another form except feedback. For instane, dr_M responded both on the thread and in the comments. Every other comment is represented in my feedback, and I have more feedback than comments.

Open comments may increase the total number of responses, but the the number of unique responders.

actual public comment

Shereads asked how young....... I can not tell, however, with the miss spelled words, format of sentence, etc., I made an assumption that the Anon reader was young. May be my mistake.

Here is the actual only public commment received on 13-stories.

I think it was one of the best storeie's. I have ever read in the incest colume's. Thank You for the storey.

I still prefer direct feedback via email.

I like the new public comments. I've gotten quite a few. If they're negative, it allows me to insert my own comment telling the person to piss off.

Is there any way to allow public comments on old stuff?

Maths, just go to your submissions page (on which you submit new stuff) and tic the little circle to allow pubic (haha) comments. (You have to tic each individual one.)

My feedback has gone up exponentially. I had to flip the switch to "you can receive feedback again, Muffie" in order to enable public comments. Though, I do believe the "I'm an irresponsible correspondent" note in my bio has helped cut down on feedback immensely. I wouldn't want anyone to waste time.

Hm, I haven't seen this feature yet? Curious. You can send public feedback? Really. I'm serious, we can actually public resond?

Back to the question at hand. I get more private than public feedback. I notice that when the stories (oh I have so many) but I have noticed that when the stories aren't up the scale on new stories, there is a significant dip in response in both realms. When I posted a new story, the private feedback increased on the older story.

Principles of marketing I suppose.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I seem to be unable to do this without giving myself a rating. I think that it might be a little presumptuous to give myself a five every time I tell some asshole who says my story "lacks imagination" to fuck off until he can write an original review.
