come on, now!
04/07/06 By: Anonymous
Don't leave us hanging for so long! I really enjoyed this story, not just for the eroticism but also for the setting and characterization. I can't stand to wait another year for one more chapter. Keep writing, or you might find your fans rioting!

I am very conscious of how much time it takes me between posting stories, and how it can aggravate. And I had been apologetic until now.

Well fuck you, whoever you are. I am no longer sorry. I choose to share my stories with you. I write for me. I don't set out to tease when I post a chapter. I like to leave it so people can imagine what happens from then on, rather than telling them. If I waited until a story was finished, you wouldn't see a story from me for 3 years. Riot away. I don't care if you read my story or not, or like it or hate it. I do it for ME.

You tell 'em!!
I haven't posted a story for around 15 months. They'll just have to wait until the words are ready to leave my head and hit the screen.

Hmmm..there is a 'downside' to that...

If you write and publish, in whatever venue, then you wish to be read or heard, whether you sing or write or build architecture, ala Frank Lloyd Wright, you do it both for yourself and for those who appreciate what you do.

If you do not desire the limelight, then don't offer your art to the public.

You write at your own pace. it has to be so. If you were being paid to produce, then someone has a legitimate reason to demand work from you. If not, then you are you're responsible to noone but yourself and your muse.

I get requests for sequels all the time. I get requests for the next chapter of running stories too. I sconsider these to be compliments. People liked the characters or stories enough to want more. At the same time, I can only write as I am moved to do so.

You grace us and all of lit with your finely wroght works. It would be no service to anyone for you to feel pressured or to feel you are working nder a gun, and subsequntly turn out somethihng you aren't satisfied is up to your standards.

Be true to yourself as the artist. Everything else flows from that integrity :rose:

Exactly! That's how it should be. :)

wt,

Just tell them you're like JK Rowling and can't find the right kind of paper.

I've been under pressure before (and to some extent, still am) to write anticipated sequels. Sometimes, I feel it necessary and proper to write them, sometimes not. Sometimes, people have to wait until I have time and inspiration for writing. I have a life outside writing, and that IS a factor. It both helps inspire and keeps me too busy at times to write. That's life. People should learn to respect the writer's private life, especially since that is the source of much of his or her inspiration. I try to be accommodating up to a point, but, seriously.....

Yeah, I get the same comments for Montana Summer. I'll spend up to 120 hours or more writing and researching, post a 20,000 word chapter and get the exact same comments the day after the new story has gone up. Jeeze I work full time, have a family, and try to have a life....

I ignore the comments now. Oh, and now, I leave the readers hanging at the end of a chapter now...

Amen!

Though with the way you write and as fantastic as your stories are, I can understand wanting more.

Uhm, I think they were being facetious. I find it flattering when people want to see the next story.

ElSol's master plan for avoiding sequel requests...

a) Write one
b) Kill off all main characters from the original story

Fuck, do ever readers get PISSED-THE-FUCK-OFF at you.

Then you'll see some feedback to get angry about... but since you did it on purpose it's sort of hilarious.

Sincerely,
ElSol

O.O
I love you... you just gave me the best damn idea....

I agree. I thought that the PC'er was just trying to express how much s/he liked it and how eagerly s/he awaits the next. Not a bad thing?

I wish I got nags for more stories by them readers. Or some kind of response. Or votes.

Shang agreed with me?!

*sniffle*

This is the happiest moment . . . of my life . . . *sniffle*

I have only gotten a request for a sequal once, but man did it make me feel good about my story. Maybe, just maybe I will write a sequal to it. (Just don't hold your breath.)

I'll play devil's advocate here:

Readers can be demanding. At the same time, if we wrote just for ourselves, why would we post our stuff at all?

I admit I have no idea what story that comment was to. In general terms, I can understand how readers can get frustrated when an author writes "My Story, Chaper 1", really enjoys said chapter, then has to wait months for the next one. Especially if the chapters are more of a continuous story than self-contained capsules with their own beginning, middles and ends.

Generally speaking I think it's best to have most of a story written before you start posting in. In the case of a novel that might not be plausible. And I also know that it can be hard to keep writing without feedback on if people are actually reading something and thinking it's any good.

If you go more than a week between chapters you're going to lose readers and they're going to lose their sense of continuity.

:rose: Thanks guys. I wasn't fishing for compliments *blush*

I should be immune to demanding feedbacks and pc's by now, being a self-crowned chapter queen

I just hate the ones who think they can threaten, whether consciously or sub-consciously, that if I don't do what they want, there will be consquences. Pressure affects inspiration.

For those of you complaining that you don't get requests to do a sequel, it's because you have the art of being able to finish something  - and I'm jealous.
