((Group B as of right now is Max, Sefu, Beret, Ad, and Eirene))

Brief History: A group of Basti has awoke from their slumber in the Museum of Natural History in New York City. The High Priestess Kalliope has ordered three groups to set out each on their own mission. Kalliope, Kalli, was to stay back with the night guard Derrick to ensure that there are no artifacts forgotten and the Museum has been cleaned up. Sammy, a director at the museum, has been chosen to take with him the innocent priestess Masika, Sika, the warrior/slave to the Pharoah Theoris, Theo, and the mate of Sika, Khai with him to retrieve Kalliope's sword of Bast. They are group A. Group B is comprised of Max, a professor of History, has offered his home to them all but is only taking Sefu, a Child of Anubis, Beret, a weakened priestess, and two guardians to the priestesses, Eirene and Ad.

"We don't know if we can get everything together...I would not want to make you seem the fool and... and... what would they do if it did not work because of a forgotten word?"

Max smiled at that, as he caught his breath finally. The rush to get the idea out in the open had left him a bit breathless. Once he felt sure of himself, he spoke again. "In this day and age, people don't expect there to have been any actual magic involved. They just believe the ceremony has some sort of religious significance, nothing more. If it actually works, so much the better, as your goal will have been accomplished. After that, it wouldn't matter. If it doesn't work, then you'd have given a show that would make our best actors proud."

"umm anyway here"

Max looked at the statuette, then carefully carried it over to a light, examined it for a moment, and then found a small box to put it in.

"well... fetch him and go... We will hurry here..."

Max nodded, then headed back in the direction he had ran in from. It didn't take him long to find Sefu, but he was taken aback by the appearance of another Bastet. He blinked twice, then spoke quietly, so as not to startle them. "Adjudicator, you found a survivor? That's good. Miss Kalli will be overjoyed, I think. Anyways, she asked me to come get you. We're just about ready to head out. Unless you think you can find any others?"

The jackal was silent, mulling over his words before speaking gently. "I do not know. We have slept for a long time, taken from our home. ..... We were forgotten it seems."

His ear snapping around at the footsteps, the large warrior let one hand fall to the sword sheathed at his side before recognizing one of the little humans.

Letting his hand fall, he listened for a moment, studying the little Bastest infront of him. "........ No. Death claimed them as they slept. This little one lives still by the hand of fate."

Slipping his arms under her once more, he lifted her, not trusting her strength to walk at the moment as he walked towards the human. "Let us go."

She heard the footsteps approaching but it was clear from her slow reaction that she was far from back to a normal Bastet. She did notice him fingerin his blade and wondered how much danger there was in this new place.

"Adjudicator, you found a survivor? That's good. Miss Kalli will be overjoyed, I think. Anyways, she asked me to come get you. We're just about ready to head out. Unless you think you can find any others?"

"He saved me," she purred looking to this man. "He is an Angel..." She continued.

"Let us go."

"Where are we going?" She asked sweetly as she curled into him, her arms winding weakly around his neck.

RedMageNeko said:
Carrying her gently, he again kept his eyes forward. "Somewhere safe little one."

At least ...... he hoped so. And if not ..... he would protect the little one. It was not her time. He would not let anyone make it such.

"Somewhere safe little one."

Beret nodded and closed her eyes drifting off into a content sleep. It was easy for anyone to see that this was an immense sign of trust on her part. She was sleeping in the arms of a death angel. The very man that led souls to the afterlife and she was trusting him with her life.

She sighed in her sleep as she dozed but she was awoken not more than four minutes later by the sound of someone very familiar.

"Beret?" The beautiful guardian Basti asked. Her tail finally unraveling itself from Ad's. She was on her feet and looking at the cat woman who was a year older than her but so much less mature than she. "Where... Where did you find her?" She asked looking so confused as her sister smiled at her.

"Oh Eirene... This is my angel... He saved me...." She purred. "He's so very nice and warm..." She whispered but loudly. "He smells nice too," she said trying to be secretive about it but failing miserably.

"Oh Beret..." She said with a smile. Her eyes moved to the Anubi... "You have no idea how much this means to me," she said looking beyond thrilled. She looked to Ad and just smiled happily finding that her tail seemed to be quite fascinated with him.

Carefully, gently sitting her down on her feet, he spoke in his deep growl to the Bastest that seemed to know the little one. "In another part of this place." He almost made a mention of the state he had found her, but seeing the light in both of their eyes at seeing eachother, he kept his mouth closed. There was no reason to ruin such a moment.

In they end, they never lasted long.

Frowning at the mention of his scent, he lowered his head, sniffing lightly. He smelled nice? He felt like they only scent he gave off was the coppery scent of blood, though perhaps fainter then some of his bretheren.

Shaking his head, he lowered his hands, though ready to catch her if weakness overcame the little one. "I did nothing."

"In another part of this place."

"I was so scared... I... well, I think that the Mother sent him to find me..." she looked up at him and smiled now that she was on her feet.

"I did nothing."

"Oh..." She seemed confused. "Well... I like your scent..."

Eirene was obviously missing this scent she was talking about... To her he smelled of blood... or death, not that it wasn't understandable and tolerable it was just a little unpleasant...

"Beret... Are you sure you're ok?" She asked.

"Oh little sister... don't worry so much about me..." She chuckled.

Max smiled, watching the family reunion. At least, from the way they acted, he assumed they were littermates, or sisters, or whatever the Bastets called such a relationship. Even more amusing was the comments regarding Sefu, and watching the large canids response to the comment that he smelled nice. Still, he winced slightly at the question of where the young lady was found. He looked to the Judge for a moment, then realized he wasn't going to tell exactly what was found. So he spoke more calmly, telling the truth, but enough to worry them. "I don't believe we'll find any other of your kind here to join you in your quest. I believe we were lucky to find her in the museum. We may also have found remains to substitute for you in the occupancy of your sarcophagi. Anyways, we should get going. The sun will come up in a few hours, I believe. We can't have this big bruiser out after daybreak without causing a stir." He grinned, patting the arm of Sefu, before heading towards a door, motioning them to follow him. "Be sure to grab everything you guys have here. We can store them at my place."

Ad was a little shocked to see the Jackal walk in carrying another Bastet in his arms, only to then discover that it was Eirene's sister. She seemed confused and weak.

Eirene had rushed over to her and Ad had followed, standing at her shoulder to check on the little one, his tail still brushing and flirting with hers. A gentle reasuring touch. Beret was calling the Anubiseth her Angel, which seemed a little unusual, even more so was him letting her.

"Be sure to grab everything you guys have here. We can store them at my place."

Ad grabbed anything that had been left lying around and put his arm around Eirene, guiding her towards the door.

Dont you worry, she will recover. Let's get out of here.

Holding back a growl that had threatened to escape at being patted by the human, he remained silent, watching the two he realized were sisters now with his dark eyes, seeing the happiness there. As always, moments like this were forced to end. "Agreed."

Looking at they obscured windows set high into the wall, seeing the shifting of the shadows, he growled softly. "The dawn approaches."

Eirene knew that this human was right and so she looked to Sefu. The guardian Basti nodded to him, he had done a good job of caring for her up til now. She figured that he could help out a little longer...

"Be sure to grab everything you guys have here. We can store them at my place."[/QUOTE]

She nodded and grabbed the bags and some trash before finding a strong arm around her. She looked up at the man that was right there and was surprised to see Ad. She couldn't help but smile a little.

"Dont you worry, she will recover. Let's get out of here."

"You're right," she said softly as she allowed the strong arm to rest soothinly on her shoulder.

"Well, lead the way to your home," she said looking to Max.

Beret thought that she was fine to move on her own and managed a few steps before her weak legs found a way out from under her. The cute kitty found a familiar body catch her and keeping her from too much harm.

"thank you Angel," she whispered as she hugged him.

Soon they were all outside the museum.

"How are we getting to your home?" Eirene asked.

Steadying the frail Bastest, the Son of Anubis slipped his arms under her once more, lifting her up to carry her once more, growling softly to her. "Until you get your strength back."

Stepping outside the museum for the first time with the tiny Bastest, he balked for a moment at the totally alien surroundings. The buildings were monoliths of glass and metal like he had not seen before. The lights, as if this place was brighter then the very night sky around it.

But most of all, the smells. The scent of this place hit him full on, making him stumble for a moment as his head swam from the oily scent that clung to the air. It was far denser out here, making him feel slightly ill.

But he did not allow himself to show this, straining once more as he looked back down at the little one, speaking softly. "How do you feel young one?"

"Until you get your strength back."

Honestly, Beret wouldn't mind him always there catching her but even she knew that this would not always be.

She could tell, even in her weak state, that he was not well. She knew it was the smell, it had to be... it was just a bad smell that hurt her nose... and her head a little bit.

"How do you feel young one?"

"I am fine..." She said but produced a little silk and held it to his nose. "You may have my hankerchief if it will help you cope with the smells..." She whispered before holding it up there for him.

OOC: It is raining... Not hard... just a light rain to kind of kill some of the harsher smells for now...

Smiling softly, he looked into her soft eyes, so bright compared to the darkness of his own. "... Thank you little one."

Large, rough hands held her closer, gently stroking down her spine as he carried her, her tail gently stroking down his chest and stomach as he walked with her. And while he did not realize it, his own tail was wagging back and forth gently, a rare, rare sight amongst the Children of Anubis.

Feeling the rain, he leaned over her a little, shielding her from much of the rain with his bulk. "Why would humans live in such a place?"

"... Thank you little one."

She smiled to let him know that she didn't mind helping him. Actually the feeling of rain was nice but she was glad when he tried to shield her from it. She didn't need illness to strike her now. Her tail was just happy to be alive and was merely thanking the beast that had made that possible.

"Why would humans live in such a place?"

"Maybe there is no other place for them... Maybe they are like the slaves..." She suggested as she cuddled in closer to him. "The slaves didn't choose to be slaves... Maybe it is like that here... They are not all what they want to be and they simply cannot leave...."

Her eyes closed for a moment before looking back up at him.

"Are we going to get more food?" She asked.

At the mention of the slaves, he paused for a moment, lost in thought. He had judged his share of them in the past. Many had been angry, confused by their plight to be sure, but many had earned the journey to the afterlife.

"....... Perhaps little one."

Glancing through the thin rain, his dark eyes adapting easily to the darkness, he searched in silence, thankful that the pathways were mostly deserted it seemed.

"....... I believe the human has arranged transport for us. I am not certain."

She smiled at him as the rain continued to fall. It wasn't long before Eirene walked over to the two of them and nodded to the pair. She wasn't sure how exactly travel would take place but she was sure that Max had them covered somehow.

"How is she doing?" Eirene asked as she drapped a blanket over him to help. what? It was a cool night and it was raining. She didn't need them both to be sick.

Beret laughed. "I am fine Eirene..."

"I'm sure you are but... I am worried..." She explained.

Looking at the blanket, he shook his head softly, sparing a moment to slip it around the little one instead before speaking. "Do not concern yourself with me. I have survived far worse."

Watching the tiny Bastest, he smiled lightly. "The little one has great spirit. She shall be fine. She just needs to rest and allow herself to regain her strength."

"Do not concern yourself with me. I have survived far worse."

Eirene smiled. "Alright..." She agreed as he wrapped the blanket around her sister. Yes, this was not a normal Anubi... He was not at all normal. Beret was surprised at the warmth that was much more beneficial to her health than just his...

Even if she did prefer just his warmth.

"The little one has great spirit. She shall be fine. She just needs to rest and allow herself to regain her strength."

"Then I leave my older sister in your care Anubi..." Eirene said making eye contact. "I know you will take care of her... but be warned if you do not," she explained.

The Anubaseth warrior could not help but laugh, his shoulders shaking as he smirked lightly. "Please, save the threats Child of Bast. They are pointless and it is doubtful you could fufill them."

Looking back out at the great city, his voice was soft, contemplative. "Besides, I have no wish to see this little one guided into the afterlife. .... There are few of us left I fear."

"Why would humans live in such a place?"

"Maybe there is no other place for them... Maybe they are like the slaves...The slaves didn't choose to be slaves... Maybe it is like that here... They are not all what they want to be and they simply cannot leave...."

That was the last of the conversation that Max caught as he slipped away to get one of the trucks. Everything else had been taken care of, so he moved around back, ducked into a back door, and grabbed a set of keys off of a rack just inside. He came back out, climbed into the cab of a vehicle, and started the engine. The powerful diesel motor stirred to life with a bit of a growl. While it was cleaner-burning than a regular engine, it was also a bit worse-smelling, though they'd recently switched to Biodiesel, which lessened the smell considerably. He pulled the truck around front, being careful not to accidentally hit anything, and then climbed out of the cab, and smiled. Finally, he answered the question posed by the rather odd, but cute, couple made by the giant jackal and the tiny Bastet.

"Actually, what you see around you was built in an era when it made people feel safer. It was also an age of expression, 'enlightenment', and advancement of technology. A lot of these buildings are at least fifty years old, actually. The world has a way of simply moving on, leaving civilizations to crumble in the dust. Ehrm...forgive me for waxing philosophical. Too much time spent on Stephen King's Dark Tower series of books."

Ad / Eirene / Sefu / Beret & Max

The Sefu and Beret made a comical couple. Ad had never known an Anubiseth care so much or be so comfortable around Children of Bast. Beret seemed to be more than taken with him and quite comfortable in his arms.

Outside it was raining, yet not as dark as Ad had thought, strange yellow lights were everywhere and it was impossible to see the stars. It was a little disturbing not being able to get his bearings.

Max had dissappeared and Ad was on edge, outside with these strange lights and shadows. He kept a lookout while he waited, the last thing they needed was for a confrontation, particularly with Beret so weak.

His red tinted eyes penetrated the shadows and saw some movement. His fur, being silver, shimmered in the moonlight and did nothing to hide his presence. His ears pricked as he focussed on the sound, tensing, Ad reached for his sword, but before he could draw it, a rat scurried out of the corner and into the wall. A rat, this strange place made Ad tense and wary, how had he got so worked up over a rat.

Hearing a strange noise, Ad turned as Max brought some strange metal smelly chariot over to them. So this would be their transport. He moved back towards the others, keeping his eyes open and sense alert.

Looking at the metal chariot the human brought forth, Sefu's ears went flat on his skull and he started to go a little green at the smell of it all. ..... How he managed to look green through a layer of fur no one is quite sure.

Chosing to focus on the humans words, trying to ignore the scent and sound of this ...... thing, he cocked an eyebrow. The first part, that was human nature. All this crumbled in the dust. That was the nature of life. The second ..... "......... What is a Stephen King?"

There was a terrible rumbling that made Beret's eyes grow as large as dinner plates. While everyone else seemed to stay a little more calm about it she was still new to the fact that the world had changed. And as this monstrosity came to a stop before them, that man came out and began talking.

She stared up at him for a little while trying to figure out what exactly he was talking about... Right now all she could see was that van, the bright lights, and darkness. It seemed that her senses were failing her... Damn...

"......... What is a Stephen King?"

Beret smiled. If that was all the Anubi was worried about then she had no reason so worry either. "What is that thing... and why does it smell so soooo bad?" She asked. Her hand moved back, with her silken hankie, to cover the Anubi's nose. "Will it let us ride?" She asked.

Eirene moved up behind Ad and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright?" She asked as she let her hand try to soothe him a little bit. there was no point in everyone being so highstrung about everything. She stared at the large metal thing and looked to Max as he spoke.

"Is this how we will get to your home?" She asked. "Where are we going to sit?" She asked as she looked to her weak sister and then to Sefu... and finally to Ad.

Chuckling in his deep growl, Sefu looked down at the tiny Bastest, silently thanking her for her concern. "I am certain it will little one."

Moving closer, studying the device, Sefu's lips pulled back lightly into a growl. It was nothing but metal and foul smells, at least to his senses. Still, the fact that it was able to move without the guidance of a horse or camel was impressive. Humans certainly had advanced.

For better or worse, he had yet to decide.

"......... What is a Stephen King?"

Max chuckled slightly. "Stephen King is a writer. Um...A scribe, who writes stories of fantasy. Usually horror stories."

"What is that thing... and why does it smell so soooo bad? Will it let us ride?"

Max grinned at that. He couldn't resist teasing her. "Hmm, I suppose if you treat it nice, it will behave. But it's only a machine, it isn't alive."

"Is this how we will get to your home? Where are we going to sit?"

Max nodded, then considered for a moment. "Well, most, if not all, of you should be sitting in the back, hidden from view. There are some artifacts that can be sat upon in there, and maybe some you can wedge yourselves between if you have to. Heavy stuff that's not going to move when the vehicle does."

Looking at the device, Sefu slowly walked around the back. Even with the cloth the tiny bastest was holding to his nose, the stench of this machine was great, a tiny pipe venting foul smoke into the air.

Climbing in in silence, he was careful with the delicate creature, moving as far in as he could, forcing himself down between two crates, sitting the tiny bastest in his lap, his dark eyes adjusting easily to the darkness.
