OK. In another thread I mentioned a method I have long been familiar with - that of placing something reflective (like a mirror) in your window to reflect negative thoughts back to the originator.

I also mentioned the good, old fashioned voodoo dolly.

What do you do to make yourself feel safer from negative thoughts or influences. Do they work? Why?

ps- I am actually vaguely thinking about doing and erotic horror story and I am playing around with this idea, so count it as research if you're getting fed up of non-writerly threads... ;)

I have a series of protection spells that I do randomly when other peoples influences start creeping in. Not sure if they really help or not but I feel calmer and better able to deal with the vibes coming in after I'm done.

And i'll admit to having at least 3 dream catchers splattered around the house. :D

The quickest way to protect an area is to lay a trail of salt around it. This is one time when you'd walk widdershins, that is anti-clockwise. Non-iodised if possible, we don't want to confuse the issue ;)

A more elaborate spell is to fill a jar full of disgusting things- rust, a bit of rotting food, urine, whatever you can think of that's repellent. Cap it good, for crissake, and bury it at the front door or near the entrance to the area. The principle is that like attracts like, and the yuck energies will be attracted to the jar and be trapped in it instead of reaching you.

I just ill-wish the ill-wisher.

Nothing too serious - just a curse of the liquid shits...

That takes their mind off any action against me.

Better than dream catchers (especially those that are made in taiwan) are medicine wheels. I have one I made hanging on my wall.

Honestly, the the two things that help me the most are smiling and laughing. As silly as that may sound. It's hard to do when those negative thoughts get in there, but I find they are the best counter to them.

How do I do it? I think about good times. Good experiences, fun get-togethers, friends and family, a funny scene in a movie or TV show, just about anything.

Probably not what you were thinking when you started this topic, but it works very well for me.

It's a good point when the thoughts are internal. It's protecting yourself from negative energies from without that I was thinking of.

Witch bottles are always fun.

I was going to mention positive thoughts, positive energy. Positivity, not negativity. :D

ETA: My Tek Jansen not withstanding.
ETA: Hey! I just turned Guru - that's positive isn't it? :)
