Prop8 struck down!

A step in the right direction. I will send a few emails today to our gov and reps. Repubs control it here but they need to hear it anyway.

Justice prevails in California! :nana:

But you know, DOMA is still the federal law. And the feds do not recognise the marriages that the states have ratified.

The Obama Administration has refused to defend DOMA, and it’s time for Congress to repeal it.

So while we are popping the champagne, please take a minute to write to your senators and ask them to support the respect for marriage act

While I'm glad it made it past the 3 person panel (though at only 2-1), I'm going to hold the champagne until it is no longer under appeal and the stay on gay marriage is lifted. Only THEN will have justice prevailed.

Agreed but it's better than 2-1 against. Wonder if the SCOTUS wants this dropped in their lap?

BTW, it should come as no great surprise that the dissenting vote came from a Bush appointee who attended Brigham Young University **cough*freakin Mormon!*cough**. ;)

Good question.

The one opinion piece I've read so far on that subject said the the decision was written so narrowly that SCOTUS may have an "out" by saying it only applies to California.
