Hey all,
I'd like some help brainstorming some details for an SRP thread I'd like to start
called "The Memory Card." It begins with someone finding a memory card containing nude photos, and probably other information -- possibly saved email messages. Ultimately the finder will get together with the person who lost the memory card and things will happen...
Now the obvious thing would be that the finder blackmails the person who lost it, or otherwise takes direct advantage of having this information in order to get into her pants. But I don't want to do the obvious thing.
I want to come up with more interesting ideas for how the memory card and its contents bring the two together. I do want to keep the naked photos in the mix, because I think it's exciting for the character who lost the card to know she's at least potentially been exposed. The finder definitely sees and is excited by the photos, (probably copies them as well) but doesn't hold them over the other character's head -- probably doesn't even mention them. They just add unspoken sexual tension between the two.
I had originally thought there might be a series of saved text messages or emails plotting the trajectory of the demise of her previous relationship. He starts looking at the emails in order to try to figure out who the memory card belongs to. But that's not quite right, because I don't want him to overtly take advantage of the information on the card. "Oh, I see you've broken up with your boyfriend. How would you like to go out with me instead?" <- Not the kind of thing I'm looking for.
Could be that he knows right from the beginning whose memory card it is. Maybe he found it by her desk after class, or in some other venue where it was obviously hers and he could return it to her the next day without necessarily having examined the contents. She won't know that he's seen the photos, but can't help but wonder.
But is it just the fact that he gives it back to her that brings them together? I don't think so.
How would you feel if somebody found and returned your memory card? On the one hand, you would be glad to get it back. On the other hand, you would probably always wonder whether he saw the photos, and where they might eventually end up. Would she find it sexy to think that this guy in her class, or clerk at the coffee shop, may have seen her naked?
Maybe she tries to get to know him better, in order to figure out whether he's likely to abuse her pictures... If abuse means masturbate to them, then yes. If it means spread them around the Internet, he wouldn't do that.
