The dynamics are always there for a good BDSM story where there is already a power relationship set up. This could be 2 way too a la Police Single “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” where it’s the student that has the crush on the teacher.

Story wise (at least from a BDSM perspective) has to be handled well. The main idea is to explore in particular the D/s part of BDSM.

The obvious (and sadly all to real) is the Professor to student abuse. Hardly novel. More interesting is the reverse. Even more so if the D/s roles end up being the other way (again another reference to another Police Track (Wrapped Around Your Finger).

Beyond that and moving within the BDSM dynamic the established D/s relationship being used to explore S&M from Dom(me) to sub. The D part being an equally vital part for leading the sub to sub space.

There are a lot of potential triggers, the students lack of good grades, the Professor’s own needs with his research time or loner status. The intense focus Professors often have to reach their position.

Above all exploring the power game and the use and abuse of power or the fact that a particular fascination either way could upset the balance quite easily with fundamental changes to the dynamics of the story.

Great concept for a story. The power dynamic is what makes it especially interesting. Of course it has been beaten to death already, but that does't mean that you can't find a new interesting twist on it. Go for it!

One variant I've rarely seen done, in part because it's scarce as hen's teeth IRL, is a relationship between two or more switch BDSM - what, practiitioners? Players? People? Not sure how to address a group of switches... Heh - a 'panel' of switches?

For those not familiar with BDSM terminology, a switch is a person who is dominant in some relationships/times, but submissive in others. Some are well-defined - this person prefers to be dominant with women but submissive to men or vice versa, perhaps - but others are more complex and vary depending on the relationships. They're dominant with this woman, submissive to that one at work but dominant in the bedroom, that male makes them feel very submissive, the other guy brings out their dominance, etc.

Having the more 'dynamic' types of switches settling into a relationship, especially a group type setting, could be very difficult to write well IMO, but also IMO could have a lot of internal consistency and interesting interrelations to explore.

I think the changing dynamic too can be interesting. Where arguably D/s relies on the perceived permission - sub to Dom that can be fluid. For example losing respect for a Dom can dilute things. There can also be more dynamics than just the permission side - wants and needs can drive certain responses too. And yes a switch can happen anyway though inadvertently - especially I argue in this type of relationship. “Now who holds the cards”!

Excellent potential indeed

Personally, I vastly prefer stories like this where the power structure is the reverse of what you would expect. Such as, the student is dominating the professor. Having the professor dominate the student seems to be too obvious, and definitely an abuse of position which makes me not like the character. Turn the tables, and it is more interesting.

(As an aside, I also prefer incest where a son or daughter pursues a parent, rather than the other way around, and for the same reasons.)
