I originally posted this under personals but a kind and helpful user suggested I repost it here…

If this is in the wrong place then I apologise in advance but it’s just I seem to be bouncing all over the Internet and I really need professional help with my writing

I work three shitty jobs and I have a massive debt that I am trying to pay off.

I love writing and I have a real passion for writing… I don’t claim to be the best and I don’t think I’m the worst either so I think I’m decent and the feedback I get is mostly positive

I tend to write short stories, but I also do write longer ones. I always offer a new person a free short story so they can get a taste of my writing style to see if it’s for them. After that, I give the price of a short story or chapter as £10 a time.

I’ve looked around and that seems to be much lower than what a lot of people charge, but the problem is I don’t know where to go on the internet to get noticed.

Can anyone advise me on where to go looking for paid writing work as about the best I can do is Reddit and I’ve got a lot of hate on there from people telling me I’m lowballing them charging £10 and apparently it’s breaking the rules to say I’m a woman…🤷‍♀️

This isn’t a sales pitch I’m just a women that really needs helpful information and hoping someone can point me in the right direction because I feel like I’m up shit creek without a paddle

Ten pounds? Sterling? For short stories or chapters?

A quick glance on Smashwords erotica shows most titles at $2.99 and the word counts are 16k and up. Similarly at Amazon erotica most of the prices are between $3.99 and $8.99.

By your pricing, my six chapter 67k word romance novel would cost a reader 60 pounds! That converts to 80 US bucks! Every author on lit wet dreams of selling novels at 80 bucks a pop. You can get used pulp novels for a dollar apiece or less at your local book trader.

Your pricing does not sound like lowballing.

Writing is much like prostitution. It might be okay as a courtesan, but it's a hard way to sty alive out on the streets. Still, it might help and good luck.

It sounds like she's taking commissions, which means she's only selling each chapter once. In those cases I've seen per-word rates, but not sure I remember what the standard amount was. I've seen people hawking commissions on Reddit and other social networking sites where potential readers were gathered in numbers.

Ok, thank you to everyone that took the time to reply. It means a lot and if I haven’t been clear I apologise

I’m gonna try and condense as much as I can to be succinct

I have a rather large total debt and I work three rather shitty jobs and do something other things that I’d rather not talk about to make what money I can

I’ve always had a passion for writing and as silly as it sounds I’ve been more nervous and excited by writing fir others then work I’ve done on Only Fans 🙈

I’m not the best or the worst writer but yes I operate on taking commissions for a story.

I tend to do short stories and I offer everyone one free short story about anything they like to see are interested in what I do

Then if they are interested and can spare it I am happy to write them another short story or chapter of the same length for £10

I’m in the UK

A lot of people have told me by DM that AI is killing writing and I should give up

A guy on Reddit told me today that everyone is selling £600 to £500 for 70K

Maybe it’s like a guy exaggerating his penis length

He said if you go too low, no one will want it because they’ll think it’s a dirty slapper

Anyway thanks for the replies, the good and the bad

I don’t expect to make it BIG with writing but it’s nice to dream while I’m taking my clothes off in a wake up video for Only Fans

Love to all ❤️

Hey, I’ll help you out. I’m in London too. Feel terrible reading what you are going through. Message me!

Hey @RIPAphrodite - have you contacted StepChange to see if they can help you with the debt side of things? Even if they can get your creditors to suspend interest, it will help.

Good luck. It's a hard, horrid world out there but sometimes good things happen.

Thank you, I’ve been so buggered by the mess with my ex I don’t know my head from my ass right now

At least you're trying to find ways out of your situation. That's awesome...!

A few ideas come to mind, given ref to OnlyFans. I don't know what stories you like to write, but it occurs to me that a set of six to ten 'templated' strokers would probably serve most of the commissions you'd get. Written from first-person as yourself, maybe, and do a search/replace on INSERTNAMEHERE for the customer. The key thing, if you're looking at a low pricepoint, is to be able to get the story out in a few minutes. Think of the 750-word challenge on here (enough words to get the job done, leaping straight into the action, not too much time to crank out). Then, if they like it, you can offer a custom longer piece for $100 or $200 once they're hooked.

From what I've seen on Lit, I wouldn't price yourself down as low as a tenner. There is something enticing to the readership about a FEMALE author of smut stories (given the predominant demographics on the site) that would potentially set you up as a premium provider.

You'd need to post some work for free, maybe just a couple of pieces, so that customers can see the quality and subject is to their liking, sort of like a sampler.

But, if you're on OnlyFans (assuming camming?), there's also the option of them watching you read out the story - adding in another dimension, dressed up as a slave girl or a vampire or whatever. Which also could mean that you can sell audio for a different pricepoint. A cam model with a vivid imagination is a point of difference in a crowded market...?

Not sure if any of that helps.

I have written short stories (3k words) for a number of print porn magazines at $150- 200 USD per piece. You might try looking into such in the UK.

Oh god that’s brilliant advice thank you, life is hard and it seems to be only getting more expensive and It’s fucking hard keeping up

Thank you for taking the time to give me such a detailed answer and it definitely helps 💋

About ten years ago I had a young woman who would video link with me so I could watch her masturbate while she read the stories I wrote for her. Maybe doing the same with your own stories (perhaps themes suggested by your fans) would generate some funding . . .

Anyone who’s done only fans like I have will know thatonly fans is a fickle business and I’m looking beyond it.

Each year new girls join and you loose people to the newbies, it works to generate a very erratic amount of incoming cash and can’t be relied upon

Competition is fierce and I really wanna make the move to writing because it’s always been a passion of mine
