I tried to submit a story. When I clicked the Preview button, I got an error that the doc I had submitted couldn't be handled by the robots, and a person would have to convert it. It invited me to try a different format; just use the back button. So I pressed my browser's Back button (not the Make Changes button), and tried to submit the doc in a different format. This time I got an error that I had already submitted a doc with that name!

1. Did that first doc actually get submitted? I don't want to submit it twice...

2. What was wrong with the file? It's a Word document, (Asch chp 1.docx) it occurred to me that the robots can't handle spaces in filenames, or the latest docx files, or maybe the doc is too long (it's 4652 words).

3. Is this the right place to submit these questions?

Spaces in the doc file name? Maybe. I've always copy/pasted from a word doc to the submission form. Sometimes I get a blank page and have to refresh, but the story always goes through.

The submissions process has been screwing up sometimes for months. Look at your submissions page. If the submission has made it through, it will be listed there. If not, it didn't. Trying to contact anyone via what you tried probably won't work either. That's been screwed up for almost forever. The only way to get hold of the editor is via PM to Laurel in the Private Message system.

What, though, aren't you just copying and pasting your entry in the submission's entry box? That's the surest, easiest way to get submitted.

That helped me answer my question. It didn't get submitted. Maybe I was too fast the first time.

Or just copy and paste the text from the word doc to the submission form, then preview will work.

I always get an error message when submitting story file, but it does get through anyway.
Perhaps the error message is actually trying to say to me, "Why do you bother with this trash."

In the past few months, it does say 'error' when submitting. Or the page is blank.

However, all you have to do is just refresh the page and it works fine.

"Works fine" is OK for those of us who submit stories a lot. Not so fine for the new submitter who is thrown into confusion because the site won't clean itself up.

If you copy the text and paste it into the box, you can check it in the preview, plus your story uploads more quickly.

Be sure to put the html tags in for italics and bold if you do it that way: <i>italics</i> etc

:)
