Problems using magic shave

I've just started using magic shave after seeing it mentioned so much here, but I've been having a few problems. I did a patch test on my arm, and it worked just fine, no reaction at all, but when I tried it on my pubic hair, it didn't remove the hair. I had previously shaved, but it had been 3 days since then. I waited only 20 hours before putting it on a second time, and it turned my skin red and bumpy. I'm in a lot of pain and I'm wondering if this is par for the course or if I'm doing anything wrong. Help with the pain or tips on using the stuff sucessfully would be much appricated.

You need to hop over to the wild and rambunctious "General Board" forum, where a number of the regulars are intimately familiar with the product. In particular "Cheyenne" is likely to notice your inquiry there. It would be nice to get the answers here, too, I know, but if a search didn't turn up what you need here already then the quick answer will arrive over in the GB. I'd put her name in the title.

You'll likely have to put up with a lot of silliness, and a few pushy suggestions, but just read past the noise and your persistence will pay off.

Or just have YOU start the thread over there paging me! :p

A patch test on your arm is a good start but the patch test on your pubic hair was the more important of the tests. Magic doesn't work for everyone.

I've never used Magic within 20 hours of having used it previously. I know the instructions say to wait at least 24 hours, but those are meant for your FACE. I make the assumption that pussy is more sensitive and you need to wait longer. Your read skin and bumps is what I'd expect from leaving it on too long.

Try something like neosporin or an antibiotic with pain relief salve for the current pain. Then wait until you are healed completely if you want to try it again.

How long did you leave it on the first time before you decided it hadn't worked? Don't scrap hard to get the hair off, either. I use the spatula lightly to get the cream off. Then a washcloth in the shower actually wipes away the hair that is still there. Do NOT scrub at it though. Ouch.

Cheyenne, aren't you the one who said to use a paperplate to deal with the scraped off hair and cream? That's what I do. I also use a plastic knife - NOT the serated side - as the spatula and I throw the whole thing away when I'm done.

I had a magic burn once. It was because I had recently "become wet." Magic and moisture do not get along at all. You want the area dry. Arid in fact until removal time.

Yes. I have those small cocktail size plates to put the cream on to toss it out.

That's a good hint, too. Dry is exactly what you want to be when you put the cream on.

Also, it isn't going to work for everyone. If you have pubic hair made like a brillo pad, Magic alone may not be enough to remove it all.

Well now, that's a charming image.

Celibacy's not looking so bad anymore.

Thanks a lot for your help. The redness and immediate pain went down after about a day. I didn't have neosporin, but I used aloe and witch hazel. The first time I waited about 6 mintues and the second time I waited 9. I used a laminated card and a washcloth. Thanks, I'll try the plastic knife tip.

I tried the knife tip and a wet wash cloth after waiting 7 1/2 mintutes and it was much better. Thank you all very much. Now I can't wait to show my SO!

Remember Magic also comes in two versions, mild and regular. I am not sure one is actually milder - Mrs Golden prefers mild and I prefer regular - Mild irritates my skin a little!

The chemical compounds are different according to the small print. One may suit you and not the other

Most of the problems people have experienced are down to

1. not doing small patch test on pubic area - your arm is not going to react the same way so a waste of time

2. re-doing the job too soon - we never go back within 3 days; 20 hours - no way!

3. Leaving cream on too long as you did, Grammarwatch. Apply the cream for 6-9 minutes - suggest you start at 6 and if it doen't remove everything, then a week later go up to 7 or 8. If you start at 9 minutes this could be longer than you need and start to burn a little.

4. Using something too big or hard or sharp to remove it (I've done that, scraped too hard, gone to the gym, sat on the cycle machine for an hour and rubbed my ass raw ... ouch and all my own fault). (smooth side of a serrated knife - sounds risky to me!)

Scrape off and rinse immediately - I scrape in the shower, drop the cream and hair mess onto the shower tray and then turn on the hose.

Magic recommends using a spatula; this implies some large scale-scale kitchen implement ... you need something small for the task at hand: the best we have found is the rounded "spoon" from a Haagan Daas Ice Cream Cup!

have fun!

And love from Golden to Cheyenne!!!!!
