I'm sure that I'm alone here - that is, few people here likely procrastinate.
But I do.
I'm a procrastinatin' muthafucka.
I need to finish one more paper (I'm on page 2!), and then I'm officially on summer break. I will be able to leave town, drive long distances, eat fast food next to lonely highways, and snuggle with my lovebunny.
Help me. I have a problem. Anyone have a procrastination quick fix? Voodoo? OTC medication? Something you saw on late night TV? Help.

O

P.S. Why do I (we) do this?

I used to be a HUGE procrastinator. But, if I wait too long to finish homework, I get all nervous I wont finish it in time. That's 1 of the reason's I took a break from College. Too damn much time on the TV, not enough time doing work. So, I gotta get my priorities straight before going back.

Usually we do it because we have a perfectionist streak- we don't even want to start till we have all of our ducks in a row, other distracting crap out of the way, & inspiration. If that never happens, we can rationalize the imperfection of the work to the rush job we were "forced" to do.

A quick fix is "The NIKE Method" Just do it! If you have time you can do it over, but at least you'll be applying yourself rather than procrastinating.

How long will Alexandraaah procrastinate before opening this thread?;)

Ha! Shows what you know. I have a LOT of homework to do, must pick up my dog and get other things done.

Therefore, I wasted no time at all in opening this thread.

I didnt read the topic of this thread properly and immediatly protected my balls.

Thank god you are not in favor of what i thought u were.

Mike

I like to team my procrastination up with my short attention span.

Ah! Glad we finally got that sorted out!

Lunch break?

I gave up trying to "fix" my procrastinating.. Now I just plan on procrastinating on certain things and give myself enough time to do enough putting off a task before thinking "gee I should go do that."

I do a little bit, however my wife is the queen of procrastination

I think you're onto something. I'm gonna bump myself of the web in about 8 minutes and finish this damn paper. The first 2 pages are stellar, I might add.

- Just doing it

I'm procrastinating big time on a paper due today. I've looked at it off and on all week but still haven't written a damn word for it. I've got the research in front of me but no ambition to pull it all together. So does anyone want to write a proposal for me? :D

I can write a book on procrastination.

Just give me a few days.....er weeks...... No Months........Years..........Um forget it. By the time I get around to it, I've lost my thoughts on the subject. What subject?? lol

Deadlines always worked for me. I may have gone 2 days without sleep, but I got it done.

Do take naps and tell yourself that as you sleep your brain will be writing the paper. It works- I have sone it many times.

But don't forget to wake up- that is crucial if you want to get it on paper.

Good luck!

Hmmm. Thank you all for your timely contribution. I will have you know that while my thread has been languishing here at Lit, I've been chugging along with this paper; I'm on page 9 already. I see a vacation somewhere up ahead...ahoy!

Indeed, the Just do It (copyright Nike) philosophy is the best. Yet, many times I toss it right out the window. The worst of it is that whatever excuses others may believe (for why my shit is late), I know the horrible truth (PROCRASTINATOR, I AM), and self-bashing ensues. Know what I mean?

Finally, sleep is good. I try to keep a journal in my dreams.

i am the procrastonator king

yes you read right , i am the king , im th biggest procrastonator you will ever meet, i even put off getttin up in the morgning till the after noon , ive failed more than one course , high school and collage alike because i just didnt get anything done
by the time i get myself motivated enought to do sumthing its too late and im already half way into another thing that ill never finish

i think i need to hire a personal motivator with a tazer and whip
ill let u fill in the rest :D

OMG...LAST NIGHT I was thinking about posting a poll about procrastination because I was stressing over waiting until the very last possible day to get my car registered (including smog check, pick up car insurance card fax they sent to the local copy place, etc.), but then I figured I'd wait until this morning to post the poll. Gee, guess which category I fall into? *lol*

I was thinking back to high school and trying to remember whether I've always been a procrastinator, and I was about most things but not about others. In college, I was one of those who waited until the day before a paper was due to start writing, though I'd gather all the research ahead of time. I write better under pressure, and I don't mind that. That's sort of how I was trained in high school by a very tough, but excellent, English Comp teacher.

But why do so many of us wait for deadlines to get things done, stressing ourselves out needlessly when we really don't need to?

I'm exactly the same way! I can't seem to get it done unless I am under pressure! Writing, housework, bills, etc... I wish I wasnt like this but I dont know what to do to change!

I actually promised to reward myself if I get ONE thing done everyday that I've been putting off. So far it's working, but then I just started it this week :D
