David Ortiz is a hell of a DH, but like many pro athletes, he's totally out of touch with reality.
Ortiz was looking for his multiyear deal, but was forced to sign the one-year deal with a modest raise. He saw his annual salary increase $2.025 million from 2011 to 2012 after making $12.5 million last season.
"It was humiliating. There's no reason a guy like me should go through that," he told the paper. "All I was looking for was two years, at the same salary. They ended up giving me $3 million more than that, and look at my numbers this year. Tell me if they wouldn't have been better off.
"And yet they don't hesitate to sign other guys. It was embarrassing."
I should be so humiliated.
