Print/Scan/Copy/Fax

We've always been happy with HP machines (and the cartridges are easy to refill with one of those kits), but next time I might go for a Kodak because they're supposedly way better on the ink front.

I have had several HP machines and have been happy with them. I have an older HP PSC 2175 running on Windows 7/64bit and it works great.

I have used an HP 6200 series for several years which has been very reliable. When it comes time to replace it, however, I am going to look at Canon and Kodak models, as well. Ink cost is just as important as the cost of the printer. Over the life of the unit, you will spend many times the cost of the machine in replacement ink cartridges.

I used to use HP and have no knock againest them but I really prefer my Brother MFC-240C. The nice thing about the MFC series is they have a wide $$ range of machines

I have used HP and Canon MFD's.

Most HP's use Canon Engines and both are very reliable.

I use a Canon imageCLASS MF3240 and use the X25 Cartidiges. Black Only.

3 years and still kicking!

We have the HP C5280 that does everything BUT fax.

If you think of it, faxing is the one thing you don't really need.

We can print and sign a document, then scan the signed document and e-mail the image to whomever we need to.

When I need a piece of hardware, I scan the Fry's and Costco web sites to see what they have on sale, compile a short list, then go TomsHardware.com to see what their reviews say.

I'm probably the furthest thing from a computer expert you could want to meet, but I just got an HP Photosmart Premium and I like it a lot. It seems to everything very well..... which is more than I can say for my hubby. :D

We have a Brother MFC 7420 laser that does all of that just fine. It won't sit alone by itself on the network - you have to have it hooked up to a computer and that computer has to be on - but otherwise it's done the job well and the toner cartridges haven't cost too much.

If you have to have fax and want an HP
(Hewlett Packard), you will have to get
an OfficeJet (the other HP inkjets, Desk-
jets, don't have fax). HP's are good, solid
printers (pretty much all that I have ever
owned since inkjets came out). If anyone
says "Don't buy Hewlett Packard.", they
are probably thinking of "Packard Bell",
which was a brand (now long-gone, thank
goodness) which was known to be nothing
but trouble. They took the "Packard" from
Hewlett Packard and the "Bell" from the
Bell System (phone company) to try to
sound reputable but their products, support
and service were terrible. Had a customer
who had bought a PB computer. The CD
drive went bad right away. Was replaced
with a defective drive. That was replaced
with ANOTHER defective drive. Then she
was told that her warranty had expired.
If anyone tells you HP is crap, don't be-
lieve them. They are the #1 computer
brand right now. I love ALL of my HP
products (computers, printers, cameras,
scanners, ???). They are workhorses.

I work with high-end scanners on a daily basis.
I would stay away from Kodak. They are just cheapening up their parts and feeder mechanisms.

HP is decent for home-use. For an office I would lean more towards Canon or Fujitsu if you can afford it.
