Looking for a princess story I read quite awhile ago.
Princess and her guards are in a forest and an assassination or kidnapping is attempted. A (former?) soldier kills the attackers and rescues the princess. After the rescue he calls her princess not knowing she IS a princess.
Turns out the attackers were part of her protection detail.
Does this ring any bells?
