Prince's Baltimore video

From what I've seen on the net, I'm just as appalled by the police brutality against young black men.

On the other hand , I feel that having a clown such as Prince using this in a song -- doesn't do them a service.

"Peace is more than the absence of war," delivers Prince on his heartfelt human rights offering, "Baltimore." The record was recorded live at his Paisley Park studios in Minnesota while the accompanying music video was shot during the "Rally 4 Peace" concert in Baltimore, MD (May 10).

Featuring vocals from newcomer Eryn Allen Kane, the song infuses a warm, feel-good vibe to balance the quotes from newspapers about peaceful demonstrations in the clip.

"Baltimore" arrived during the civil unrest after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray while in police custody.

The "Rally 4 Peace" concert is "meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S."

A portion of the song's proceeds will go to youth charities in Baltimore.

[Intro: Eryn Allen Kane]
Baltimore

[Verse 1: Prince]
Nobody got in nobody's way
So I guess you could say it was a good day
At least a little better than the day in Baltimore
Does anybody hear us pray
For Michael Brown or Freddie Gray?
Peace is more than the absence of war
Absence of war

[Chorus: Prince & Eryn Allen Kane]
Are we gonna see another bloody day?
We're tired of the cryin' and people dyin'
Let's take all the guns away

[Verse 2: Prince]
Absence of war, you and me
Maybe we can finally say
Enough is enough, it's time for love
It's time to hear
It's time to hear the guitar play, guitar play
Baltimore, ever more

[Bridge]
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace

[Guitar solo]

[Chorus: Prince & Eryn Allen Kane]
Are we gonna see another bloody day?
We're tired of the cryin' and people dyin'
Let's take all the guns away

[Bridge]
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace
If there ain't no justice then there ain't no peace

[Outro]
We have to interrupt the regular scheduled programming to bring you up to date on a developing situation in Los Angeles

Why open this thread and post in it, then?

meanwhile murder rates in Balt are soaring to levels unseen since teh 1970's

when the population was TWICE as much as today

10,000's of people with no purpose, direction or self-worth. You should go lead them out of the darkness.

I see things in a similar way.
With regards to minorities (anywhere in the world) who are held in lesser regard or are at a socioeconomic disadvantage --- they tend to "internalize the oppression" :
- aka they either develop low self-esteem or low motivation and give up
- or, alternatively, they can lash out in anger towards their own or towards the majority.

Not to say, however, that there aren't also other factors (social, cultural, etc) that come into play
