I was just looking at some Pride Events for this week in my area.

My daughter and I might go to some. There are some wonderful things going on here.

How about you?

Are you going to any events?

Does your area have some great groups planning such events?

I'm pleasantly surprised to see how much we do have going on!

Absolutely! It's the highlight of our month. 2 days of a parade, couple parties, drag queens vs dykes baseball game - what more can you ask for! Several of us have been going together for many years and now we have kids and grandkids in tow. Much fun and frolicking shall be had. :)

Just went to Motor City Pride in Ferndale Michigan this last weekend. It was my first pride-fest, and it was a blast!

It was also the first time I've been out of the house in a skirt, nylons, and heels in broad daylight to the general populace. It was great!

My daughter keeps up on all the GLBT stuff nationally. We have yet to go to an event. She knows I'm more than willing. I am, as usual, waiting for her to decide what she really wants to do.

i don't know exactly what's going on around here, only that a LOT of stuff is going on. I'm planning to go at least *something* - whenever my friends are free... nothing is set in stone yet though = )

Calgary does have some pride events, just had the Fairytales film festival, But really, every day in my life is a pride event as me and my gel live out and proud always:)

I totally agree with you on this but what better time to come celebrate with thousands of other similarly minded folks? For me it is a time to honor my ex roommate/ex bro in law/ex Sister of Perpetual Indulgence's life - I loved him and miss him and lost him to Aids several years ago (amongst several other of my friends). It is a time to honor the definition of family and for my family it is the most fitting so it is one of major celebration. It is the one time of the year (besides my non traditional, oh so traditional, christmas dinner) that we actually all take the time to come together over a couple of weeks to attend the outrageous celebrations that remind us of the paths that we traveled to get to the present. It truly is my favorite time of the year.

Love your thoughts on this :)

I am going to my local Deaf Pride party tomorrow night, and on Sunday I will be one of the interpreters on the main stage at Capital Pride. :D

Latvia had a Pride celebration recently, I think it was their first! Unfortunately people in Moscow who were protesting for the right to have Pride were attacked by other people and then arrested by the police.

For information on Pride events all over the world - especially a TON of events in the U.S. - check out www.InterPride.org !

I think this is really great. In the end since I'm leaving it up to my girl, we may not actually get to anything but it's still way cool to me that this exists!

Fury, this all sounds so exciting. Wishes for the two of you having a wonderful, wonderful time! :rose: Neon

The Rainbow flags are now lining Market Street! (Main drag in SF)

They always make me happy!

The parade is amazing here if you've never seen it before - a whole city's worth of people march, takes about 4 hours from start to finish. I've marched once with a health department contingent, as a dental dam, LOL. Don't go anymore on Sunday unless I am working a booth/exhibit. Someday, however, I am going to be at the front of the parade. Just have to find the right woman with a bike...

Definitely always do the Dyke March before and will go to Pink Saturday, put on by the Sisters for awhile. I also already have a ticket to the Exiles' play party that evening.

Also, I am going to try to catch some flicks at the Frameline Film Fest, although I am a little short on cash this month...

With You in Pride, Everyone!

Aren't they amazing?! They performed yesterday at Capital Pride in Washington DC. I just love their songs.

i have another pride question:

i'm kinda bi-curious, most confused, but i've been thinking about going to the local pride parade this fall to sorta see what it's like (and maybe have my first same sex experience). does anyone have any advice? would this be a terrible idea?
Anybody is welcome to attend Pride events, if you want to go, you should! However, it's not usually a meat market. The parade is usually more about taking pride in who we are, being joyful, and celebrating ourselves. You'll probably have better luck finding a guy if you go to one of the parties. Check the website for your local pride events, or look in the local gay paper/magazine if you have one. There's always plenty of parties surrounding pride events!

I guess the obvious question to me is, are you looking for a "hookup" or a "relationship" with a guy? Bi-curious could mean a lot of things. Personally, I was in the 'curious' catagory for a while until I met Sir and Ma'am, and Sir is bi... so I got to play around with him. I found out I liked sexually playing with him, BUT, I would almost certainly not want a relationship with a man. It would have to be a ONE-IN-A-FREAKING-MILLION awesome guy to get me to actually switch romantically. (well, plus I'm married, so I'm not even looking.)

On the other hand, some Bi guys are alright with seeking a man for romance, not just sex.

That being said - if you're looking for a romantic relationship, I'd avoid doing the "one time hookup at a party." Sex does not equate to love. Love does not equate to sex, necessarily either. If it's romance you're looking for, don't do yourself the disservice of hooking up first and building the relationship later. IMHO, it's always better to find a guy you click with, and build a healthy relationship with him before you really do serious playing around. For me, at least, the playing is always so much more meaningful and intense if there's love behind it... also, it proves that your relationship isn't BASED on sex if it exists before the sex does.

On the other hand, if you're just cruising for cock, good luck at the parties! I'm sure there are going to be plenty of cute guys with swimmer physiques and washboard abs :D At least there will be in my head. A boi can dream, can't s/he?

Neon,

Your rainbow flag reminded me of driving down Davie Street in Vancouver's West End (gay area) the rainbows fly from the light standards all the time (I think!)
I thought it was cool!

Happy Gay Day from San Francisco, everyone!

P.S., Lezli, aren't those rainbow flags in public spaces thrilling! BTW, you would be completely welcome! (Even can offer a place to stay...) :D
