I like classic movies, and so ai watch TCM. A couple of nights ago, I was watching and they showed "Pretty Maids All in a Row" staring Rock Hudson. Angie Dickinson and Telly Savalas were also in it. It's kind of a "B" movie from 1971.

The reason I'm saying all of this is because I saw this on Showtime, years ago. There are several pretty girls in this movie, in various stages of undress. A few of them were totally naked. Rock, was fucking them. He was the football coach and guidance counselor of the high school, and the girls all swooned for him. But, I digress...

Theh point of this post is to say I'm amazed! TCM showed this movie AND the naked girls with no cuts, that I could see. I saw five naked women in this movie, and one even was a full frontal nude shot for about 10 seconds...pussy hair and all. There was even a shot of Angie Dickinson's naked body as she lay in bed. This high school kid was caressing her naked ass..

So, when did basic cable change? OK, this was shown about 2:00 in the morning, so maybe they thought it was OK to show nakedness (and I'm not complaining), but is that legal? I mean...this was basic cable!

I also recently saw a show on the history channel where there were guys saying some pretty crude words for basic cable. They were saing fuck and shit and various combinations of just about anything you've heard in a locker room. Again, I'm not complalining but when did basic cable change? This kind of stuff has ALWAYS been bleeped out.

I recently saw Kate Beckinsale on Conan O'Brian. God, she's hot. I could listen to her talk all day long. I nkow it's partly her accent, but she's also quite pretty. But this wasn't a pay channel. It was basic cable, which is just like network TV. What they showed would be considered at least R rated, for sexual situations and nudity. I've seen a lot of shows that normally would have nudity in them be chopped up by these stations, but not this time. It looked just like I remember seeing it on Showtime, years back. I just thought it was strange.

Oh, and there were no actual sex scenes in this movie...just before and after. There was one heavy petting scene, but it was in a dark car. Still, there was no problem seeing what she looked like. And, there were a fair amount of nude and topless women laying around.

On a side note...I don't know how old Angie Dickinson was when the movie was filmed, but she looked HOT!

Basic cable does have rules and regulations regarding content. Until 10:00 PM, they're identical to network television. From 10-Midnight, they're a little more relaxed, as regards language. Midnight to three or four in the morning, far far more relaxed. Comedy Central puts things like Friar's Club Roasts on in that timeframe, completely uncut, no matter how foul they get. From 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM, back to tight restrictions.

Generally speaking anyway. People are getting smarter about their TV remotes, and the Parental controls, after all. Six to twelve steps behind the kids, of course, but getting smarter...

I've noticed a steady decline in censorship in the media as well. I support it, but it can be a little shocking at times.

I do remember when hearing the word "ass" on TV somehow felt unusual. Now it seems that broadcast television have shows that include every swear word but the f-bomb and radio is even worse. I don't know if I've seen nudity, but the amount of violence shown on tv seems to be more extreme as well.

Truthfully, I'm not sure how I feel about it.

BUT the UK is no better.

My sons had Grand Theft Auto and other games which showed blood spatter and yuck stuff from an early age because the games were rated for a young age group.

TV has pretty much every swear word going, apart from cunt. Even then I have heard it on some shows after 10 pm.

Our watershed time is 9pm and after that its pretty much censorship free in terms of swearing.
Sexual scenes are fairly explicit after 9pm. Nakedness is allowed, masturbation and sex scenes.

On talk shows it is common to have US guests comment on how shocked they are about being aloowed to swear or just swearing because they can

TV, video and games re blamed for alot of the violence (sexual and non-sexual) but I am not convinced its the main issue.
I remember watching Tom & Jerry and Roadrunner but I never went beating up cats then expecting them to survive!!

I've never owned a GTA game, but I'm enough of a gamer to know the scandal you're talking about.

If I recall though, they sold more copies of the game AFTER the Hot Coffee scandal than before, despite it's being pulled from family friendly stores like Target and Walmart. Not a bad move on Rockstar's part, and it speaks wonders about the hypocracy of America.

Getting to different countries and how each is different, I know that Japan is different in how they do many things. I wonder if it has something to do with the old culture.
