While the article itself was careful to explain that the virus can still spread on contaminated
surfaces, it would certainly be understandable if someone only glancing at the title —
or skimming the Fox News piece rather than reading it carefully — would walk away
with the wrong impression.

At some point within the last few days, the Centers for Disease Control updated its page
on how the coronavirus spreads by writing that the virus "does not spread easily" from
individuals "touching surfaces or objects."

It added, "It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface
or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly
their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still
learning more about this virus."

A common refrain in white evangelical circles is to condemn the police murder of George
Floyd as, in the anodyne words of the evangelist and Trump ally Franklin Graham,
a “terrible tragedy that should not have happened and should never happen again”.
In this all-too prevalent way of thinking, there’s only one cure for racism. As Dan
Patrick, the Republican lieutenant governor of Texas, told Fox News on Wednesday,
the country could only be “healed” by people accepting Jesus Christ.

In 1964, the late Jerry Falwell Sr, the founder of the Moral Majority and the father of
Jerry Falwell Jr, one of Trump’s most steadfast evangelical defenders, called the 1964
Civil Rights Act “a terrible violation of human and private property rights” and said
it “should be considered civil wrongs rather than civil rights”.

Today, Trump’s base echoes similar claims of persecution – claiming that LGBTQ+ rights
for example, infringe on Christians’ religious freedom, or that state governors’ restrictions
on large gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic infringe on the first amendment rights
of churches. Throughout his candidacy and presidency white evangelicals have stood
behind Trump because, many of them say, he is “the most pro-religious freedom”
president in history.

Their ongoing support for Trump – as he cracks down on protesters and hijacks the front
of a church to pose with a bible – is, unfortunately, another chapter in this long history,
one in which Trump has emerged as their dedicated strongman, unafraid to defend their
“freedom”, no matter the cost to other Americans.

actually utilized by the left as an ironic self-criticism.

Today, however, the accusation of ”Political correctness” is now wielded like a cudgel

The term “cancel culture” has evolved as another criticism of supposedly “liberal”
behavior on social media. As explained by Aja Romano, writing for Vox, the
phenomenon occurs when “A celebrity or other public figure does or says something
offensive. A public backlash, often fueled by politically progressive social media,
ensues. Then come the calls to cancel the person — that is, to effectively end their
career or revoke their cultural cachet, whether through boycotts of their work or
disciplinary action from an employer.”

Romano’s article for Vox describes the origins of the term “cancel culture”
and also highlights the debate about its effectiveness.

But for purposes of Ivanka Trump’s accusation, the debate is irrelevant, because the term
simply doesn’t apply. Ivanka Trump was not denied the opportunity to dispense her wisdom
to the students of WSU because of “cancel culture” or “viewpoint discrimination.” She was
denied that opportunity because of her prominent role in an administration that is actively
encouraging violent attacks on American citizens in violation of their Constitutional rights
even as we speak.

Two new polls dropped on Tuesday that shocked the political world.

The first survey put presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden ahead of (Presiderp) Trump
by 16 points in Michigan. The second one put Biden only 1 point behind Trump in Iowa.

Given that Trump carried Iowa by 9 points in 2016, that suggests a pretty big shift away
from him, as does the result out of Michigan, where Trump also prevailed by a hair.

What’s striking is that both polls show Trump absolutely cratering on his handling of both
the coronavirus pandemic and the protests in response to police violence.

Simply put, we’re living through truly seismic events right now, and Trump has handled
both of them horribly. Some pundits got temporarily lulled into believing that both crises
would help Trump, but the bottom line is he’s in charge, and for now, anyway, he’s being
held accountable for the epic disasters unfolding on his watch.

Trump spent the weekend playing golf and tweeting insults at Democrats.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll, more than 60 percent believe everyone
should be required to wear a mask, and public health experts worry the nation is
reopening too soon.

Naturally, those crowds packing bars, beaches, and pools are overwhelmingly white.
Hell hath no fury like a white person accustomed to following no rules but their own
Whiteness, they’ve been indoctrinated to believe, is a shield from laws and logic.
It’s not just that they don’t care if they die; they don’t think they will, especially
after reports about the pandemic’s disproportionate impact on communities of
color.

Like Trump, they’re so selfish and thoughtless, they’re incapable of caring about the
toll their actions may exact on others. It’s also why, similar to the president mocking
the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, former vice president Joe Biden,
they berate those who choose to wear masks. In Kentucky, militia gun nuts hanged
an effigy of Governor Andy Beshear from a tree outside the governor’s mansion,
an ugly tantrum sparked by his endorsement of pandemic safety measures.

All 50 states have partially reopened some businesses and activities. Yet at least 18
states are still reporting increases in coronavirus cases, as epidemiologists warned of
a second wave as ferocious as the first. Meanwhile, White House adviser Kevin
Hassett recently evoked this nation’s racist history when he said, “Our human capital
stock is ready to go back to work.”

Whatever happens, Trump says, “We’re not going to close the country” a second time
(Governors closed down their states to stop the virus’s spread and if, necessary, will
probably do so again. Trump didn’t close them the first time.)

to ongoing protests.

Jann Carson, interim executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of
Oregon, called the recent arrests “flat-out unconstitutional” in a statement shared
with The Post.

“Usually when we see people in unmarked cars forcibly grab someone off the street,
we call it kidnapping,” Carson said. “Protesters in Portland have been shot in the head
swept away in unmarked cars, and repeatedly tear-gassed by uninvited and unwelcome

Trump wants the distraction of BLM protests gone.
Oregon protesters gained a victory when the police vacated the police station,
and allowed protesters to occupy the street, peacefully.
Trump wants to make an example of the Portland protesters.
Trump invented a battle that did not exist on the border, and sent
American soldiers to shoot an imaginary army of violent invaders
at the Mexico border. It was a farce. People and their children slipped
into the USA quielty, and there were not many. A thin trickle. Trump
shouted about 2018 massive migrant caravan. It never arrived.

"O'Shaughnessy said the troops would be deployed by the end of the week
with weapons, helicopters, aeroplanes, barriers and miles of razor wire to
support border patrol agents." The coils of razor wire arrived, and the soldiers
were put to work stetching out the coils. Much of the miles of metal coils
were stolen. The soldiers were ordered to remove the razor wire fence, but
there was not much left. National Guard, Border Patrol, and soldiers sat idle
bored. It was a propaganda effort and 5,200 military troops sent by the Pentagon
and a few thousand National Guard were used as props.

team in full battle gear against unarmed civilians.

The small group of protesters had a dance party near the federal courthouse.
It was peaceful, and people went home, by their own decision.

There was no need or reason for federal police to abduct them, and haul them to
the courthouse they are guarding.

There was a separate group at a local police station.

The chanting about burning happened at police station, not federal courthouse.

protesters picked up in unmarked vehicles

U.S. District Judge Michael Simon on Friday granted the American Civil Liberties
Union of Oregon’s request to add the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the
U.S. Marshals Service to a temporary restraining order preventing police from dispersing
arresting or targeting journalists or legal observers at protests.

The agency said Friday it would file a revised motion that includes those federal
agencies.

The organization filed the original request for the injunction on behalf of the
Portland Mercury, as well as several independent journalists and legal observers.

The city of Portland and the ACLU of Oregon agreed to a preliminary injunction
that extends to Oct. 30. Under that injunction, police may not disperse or arrest
journalists and legal observers and they can’t unlawfully seize photographic
equipment, recording equipment or press passes from journalists and legal
observers, or order journalists or legal observers to stop photographing,
recording, or observing a protest.

"So they (epidemic experts, head of Disease Control, head of Health ) got that one wrong.”

Trump’s account was completely backward.

Then, again, Republicans have a made insulting people part of their culture.
Free to insult a member of the minority community, a woman, a member of
the LGBT community. The newest approach is to claim victimhood while

breathing distance with my coronavirus."That involves ignoring scientific
facts- Some have become infected, and are asymptomatic.Carriers and
spreaders, that do not feel unwell, themselves. Do not show outward
symptoms.

Media and press arrive at the agreement that American coronavirus deaths are 170, 000
Coronavirus is no longer a joke in the South, or the West. But Trump has made it political
Some of the business owners have changed their tune- formerly forgiving stores are not
tolerant of mask-less ass clowns, since employees have died, or are permantly disabled.

Some stores are in the uncomfortable position of operating in a zone where people
belive that they are living inside of Trump's Alternative Universe. "Freedum rules,"
but the stores are protecting their employees. At the checkout line, the cashiers are
witnesses to how this playing out- The mask-less are bullying the masked. Even as
the bodies are piling up, overwhelming the morgue, stacked in refrigerated trucks outside.
The hospitals are overwhelmed with coronavirus patients, displacing people needing care.

Still, they cry ", My freedum" in the face of a changed situation."
"My freedum of speech! My freedum of choice. You cannot force me to do it."
That is, until they find themselves dying of Covid-19, unable to recover.

The hospial is the zone here reality meets the Trump Alternative Universe

They will die alone, as Trump's elder brother did.

(It was part of Trump's family culture to ignore the dying.)

No one will be at their deathbed to comfort them.
