Anybody out there use prepaid cellular phone service? I'm thinking about going this route because I'm basically looking for something for emergency/occassional use. I'm just looking for some opinions as to whether it really sucks or is worth the money.

It depends on where you plan to go with one. I believe it was "Jim Henson" who started a thread last summer about the problems he had with leaving the prepaid service area and discovering that you can't "roam" with a prepaid phone.

Read the service agreement carefully to make sure that it will meet your needs and the prepaid time doesn't have an expiration date.

My brother uses them with his teenaged daughters successfuly (local) They cannot over use the alloted time

Thanks WH, I don't travel much, other than in the state I live in so that won't be much of a problem. I'm going to do a lot of research before I commit because I'm a cheapskate and want to get the best deal :)

I have one but for me it is impractical...I use waaaaaaaaay to many minutes... if it is for emergancy only they are good. I use AT&T free to go wireless. you can buy time in 10,25,50,75,100 dollar increments. The time is good for 45 days so you would probably want the lesser amount but the per minute rate is higher the less you buy.
