Pregnancy Cravings?!

At first, I couldn't stand anything, especially drinks. Soda and tea made me want to hurl, which probably means I didn't need it. ;)

After the first trimester, I craved all sorts of weird-ass stuff. One night, I drove to the supermarket at midnight to get dried apricots, pineapple, ham and cream cheese. I worked nights and I'd bribe the security guards go into town to get me fried fish, hush puppies and a big pickle every Friday night. We also had season baseball tickets and I craved baseball food, like hot dogs, brats and nachos. I'm sure I about bankrupted hubby. I craved liver and onions too, which I hate normally. Guess I needed the iron.

Italian dressing? That explains nothing about myself cept that I hate italian food >.> (well most anyways).

A friend of mine, who gave birth a few months ago, went crazy for french fries with ketchup and vanilla sauce during her pregnancy. Something about the salty/sweet combination, I think.

What is not properly understood is that the lady's cravings have an effect on her mate -- the guy is apt to put on almost as much weight during the pregnancy --

As for cravings -- it was the forbidden fruit that tormented my wife. She had been told in no uncertain terms that caffeine was forbidden -- so no coffee, and, even more painful -- no chocolate. What she really wanted, all along, was a Snickers bar.

I had a lot of milkshakes with my first. just a bit of chocolate and a handfull of strawberries. And subway tuna sandwiches with bacon. Shrimp and sausage were on the menu alot!!

With my second I didn't really have any above average cravings but I couldn't eat, look at, smell or think about hamberger. I also couldn't use toothpaste, it made me gag.

I had serious, serious morning sicknes (what a misnomer, it was all day sickness) with both my sons. The first, I was ill for 5 months, had 2 months when I felt fine, and then ill again for the last 2 months. With the second, I was ill for the whole 9 months.

It was not so much cravings with the first, as those things I would want to eat, and could eat, without throwing up. My main diet if I remember, consisted of chips (fries to you guys), and mini chocolate covered swiss rolls. He adores chocolate now.

My craving with the second (Mat Jr) was prawns (shrimp). Drove the ex crazy trying to get them. Mat absolutely loves them. Will eat them any time, any where.

For both pregnances, before, I drank copious amounts of coffee - as soon as the sickness kicked in, all I could face were cold, icy cold drinks, no coffee, no tea, usually coke. But in both cases, within an hour or so of the birth, I was desperately craving a cup of coffee. Wierd.

And smells drove me crazy. I loved venison, but for both pregnancies, couldn't even bear the smell of it cooking, sent me running for the bathroom.

I remember the doc telling me that at least with being ill, I had no worries about miscarriage. The two just did not go together. Research, apparently had decided that.
