NO! i'm not pregnant YET...before anyone says anything! :p

Anyway, i was listening to a talk-radio station called London's Biggest Conversation (LBC) and they were talking about Pregnancy Cravings, and asking people to call in with their cravings...

One woman went completely off Meat...she went completely Veggie

Another craved the taste of toothpaste and had to keep brushing her teeth...or eat loads of mints when she couldnt brush her teeth.

The weirdest, worstest one was a woman who called in saying that during one of her pregnancies she craved some kind of African Snails...she had them imported and she'd make some kind of peppered snails and freeze them in batches of 4, and everyday she would have some. As soon as she had the baby she said she never wanted to see another snail again, and had to get rid of the rest that were in her freezer!

The same woman, during a later pregnancy craved Catfish...and again would eat one every day. Again she said she couldnt stand the thought of having another after she had the baby!

*shudder*

My mum craved very spicy indian pickles when she was pregnant with my sister...

So, what cravings did you have during your pregnancies ladies? :D

And guys, what about your partners?

With Spawn, I wanted italian salad dressing - BAD.

I ate salads almost constantly for about two weeks, and then the meager amount of dressing on the salad wasn't enough to satisfy the craving, so (and this is sorta gross) I would buy one of the small bottles of it, and drink it. Only a few times, but I just had to have it.

With my first, it was chocolate milkshakes.

Didn't have many cravings with spidey, for some reason.

He more than makes up for not pissing you about during your pregnancy, by doing it now, eh? :p

I've been eating a lot of tuna, white albacore, drained, with Italian dressing. Also, raw veggies with ranch. What I REALLY want lately is baklava. Endless amounts and styles of baklava. I also cannot get enough ice cream/frozen yogurt/fruit smoothies. Anything cold and smooth.

I had a friend who would get a craving to go outside and lick the concrete after it rained during one of her pregnancies.

ETA: I ate constant salads in the first trimester, most of which got thrown up.

Before I had my son I didn't eat beef or pork. About 12 weeks into my pregnancy I had this insatiable craving for a big juicy steak. I didn't care about the fixins...I wanted the meat slathered in steak sauce. The other thing I had to eat on a daily basis was hashbrowns. Really, any type of potato but hashbrowns were the easiest and quickest to make and when I wanted them I wanted them like yesterday! Also, I'm not a fan of milk but when I was pregnant with my son I'd eat cereal by the box in the morning and just devoured the milk once I was done.

With my daughter I was a fruit nut. I wanted fresh fruit all of the time. Especially watermelon and cantelope but really as long as the fruit was fresh I was a happy camper. I also loved caesar salads - couldn't get enough of them!

With both pregnancies I couldn't tolerate chicken. I couldn't even make it. The mere thought of handling raw chicken made me run to the bathroom!

Actually, I had that same problem a couple months ago. I think I was prepping chicken for dinner and had to make a run to the toilet. Makes me nauseous thinking about it now.

I haven't really had any cravings as such, but am definitely eating more doughtnuts than usual!! In the first trimester I went off chocolate , luckily I'm over that now!

With my daughter, I just couldn't eat anything. In fact I LOST about 20 pounds over the course of the pregnancy, from beginning to end.

With my son, I wanted vanilla ice cream and salsa. Nothing with the vanilla ice cream, nothing with the salsa (not even chips, just eat with a spoon.)

I bought boxes of ice cream and made vats of salsa, and that's all I ate pretty much.

Hmmmm lets see if I can recant a couple of these:

Mom with me craved fresh fruit all the time, had to have it with breakfast, mid-morning, lunch, mid-afternoon, dinner...you get the idea. LOL which she says she didn't mind so much as she didn't put on a lot of weight and was able to lose it quite quickly after birth.

Now Mom, with my brother, exact opposite. She wanted sweets all the time, especially any type of cookie she could get her hands on. Both of these showed much as we were kids...I ate more fruits, he ate more cookies [consequently LOL my brother never quite was able to fit in hand-me-down jeans]

Had a teacher whom talked about her one daughter, all she craved was olives, which she hates. She would eat the entire jar, then drink the jar dry. To this day she can't touch an olive without feeling green, but her daughter eats em all the time.

I wanted curry, indian food, fried green tomatoes, jambalaya and I could have tackled anyone walking past me with fried pickles.

At university in Arkansas when my hall director was pregnant she craved fudge pops and pickles so whenever we had a resident assistant meeting we all ate it with her. Turned into a lasting craving for at least half of us.

Ahh... Cravings

I've been craving
habenero cheese dip
tacos
anything remotely
tongue tingling spicy.

Most meat turned my stomach but especially sausages...I don't like them much now but every now and then I'd need a steak, not want, need. Pity we were so poor I rarely got it *L*

But I ate tins of heinz cream of Tomato soup every day. I'd have it alone or with pasta for at least one meal every day. I can't stand the stuff usually.*L*

And flumps (big, twisty marshmellows) I'd eat five or six at a time.

I wanted Entenmann's Pop 'Ems, which are pretty much glazed donut holes. But they HAD to be Entenmann's. I probably had at least two boxes of them a week. I also craved chocolate milk a lot, which is weird, because I don't like chocolate. Also, ice cream.

In spite of all that, I only gained ten pounds.

Are those the ones that look like maypoles? Like these?

In between bouts of throwing up, for both pregnancies I wanted orange juice, cold as you could get it. Also, the sweet sticky barbeque sauce on anything (chicken, pork chops, I'd swipe a piece of bread through it, or even on a spoon!) and those pointy, lethal lollipops called Astro-Pops. Any chicken, however, had to be on the bone. No boneless, skinless breasts for me then, they would grow in my mouth never to be swallowed. But orange juice, oh, man was it good.

weirder

I have been listening to weird and strange cravings from many people for years, and the weirdest so far are:
1 Turnip, as much as you can eat, non stop
2 Ice cream and pickled onions together
3 Coal, by the mouthful, nothing but raw straight off the back of a truck, coal

Look how many of us mention pickles or salad dressing or some form of vinegar!

And the rest of us went for fresh fruit-- these are acidic things. I think we are trying to balance our PH levels, for some reason.

I went the fresh fruit route-- I carried my daughter during a very hot summer, and the Mexican fruit popsicles, 'Paletas' saved my ass. I loved to hear that little bell ding-a-linging, that meant the cart was walking past my house. Strawberry, no milk.

During my next pregnancy, I added oranges-- I've always loved them, but I started just slicing them across and eating the rinds along with the pulp. Still do, once in a while...

I was so disappointed that I never had cravings at all. I was so looking forward to doing the stereotypical thing and sending my husband out for some odd thing at three in the morning. It never happened. I did eat a lot of Dole frozen strawberry fruit pops, but I attribute that more to being pregnant in late summer with no air conditioning than actual cravings.
